Anyone know if an adapter exists to convert the HDMI output on my laptop to an RCA, Component, or S-Video input on my TV? I have been told "no" by a geek at best buy, and I have been told "yes" by a geek that is related to my wife. I can't find anything in searches. Anyone know for sure?

It would be a nice excuse to buy an LCD, but I don't really want to spend it right now.

Yes they exist.  You can adapt almost anything anymore.

This would work but you would need another cord for audio.  They make them with all 5 outputs as well.  Only advice is try to buy from someone with great history and in the country in case of return/defective parts.  Was burned once on cheap stuff from Hong Kong (and have gotten other stuff from there just fine) and couldn't get contact with the seller, product was "lost" being returned, etc.  Plus IIRC PayPal won't protect for overseas transactions.
A HDMI to 5 adapter runs around $20 with free shipping from a seller in the USA. http://cgi.ebay.com/HDMI-5-RCA-Audio-Video-AV-Cable-HDTV-STB-Cord-5-FT-/390083270654?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5ad2c657fe

I never saw these, however, I am wondering if there is a converter box for these due to the different types of signals, or will it work directly. The first item says "Accessory Adapter Cable only, fits for the devices which itself can convert digital signals to analog signals" and the other link states that "This cable is unidirectional HDMI (in) 5 RCA (out). It don't have the chip to convert digital signals to analog signals, so it only fits for the devices which itself can convert digital signals to analog signals, for example STB (Set Top Box)."

This is where I am a bit ignorant, as I am in no way technically oriented when it comes to digital stuff. I do have a digital converter box for the digital TV signals that started a year or two ago, and I believe it does have RCA inputs, but not component inputs. Otherwise, if I have to purchase an expensive box, I may as well just put that money towards a new TV.

you will need a converter box to do what you want.  HDMI is purely digital, there are no analog video signals in it.  That component to HDMI cable seems like a joke to me because it will do nothing.  If you look at the wikipedia article about HDMI, you'll see that there is no video signal in going through it.  The digital to analog converter boxes are made more for business who use projectors, or other expensive analog displays.  I see no reason for a consumer to need one unless they're absolutely against upgrading their current setup.  Your best bet is to upgrade your TV
