I finally upgraded my receiver to a Yamaha with HDMI 1.3 (my old Onkyo didn't have any HDMI).  I had my DVD player hooked up directly to the display via HDMI and used an optical cable to run the sound to the receiver. I figured I might as well get another HDMI cable to connect my DVD to the receiver now that I can but holy crap batman!!!!  Circuit City had cables for nearly $200!!!  I don't need to spend that kind of money, do I?

+1 for monoprice.  Don't buy into the Monster Cable hype.... except for their Monster Screen Cleaner.  That stuff really works.

It's a digital cable, the only possible issue would be improperly shielded cable. I work at radio shack, our old HDMI cables where shit, pretty much no shielding, there was a noticeable difference between them and monster, especially when they where near power cables. The new ones look flawless. Save yourself $60 and get the generic provided they are well shielded.

DON'T BUY THOSE CABLES!!!

hdmi cables are digital. That means it's either full signal or none.  If you had component cables it might make sense to buy "monster cables" because there is variation in transmission (i.e. gold is a better conductor than copper)

but HDMI is HDMI.  This is the benefit.  Here's a good site.

Smartest thing is to wait till monoprice has one of theirs on sale for  $1.50 or less as they do every couple weeks and stock up

Can we just get monoprice as a site sponsor and get them an ad at the top of the page already?

Every three months I read the new HDMI thread where someone gets fleeced, then I change my furnace filter and check my smoke alarm batteries.  Its like clockwork around here.

This repetitive shit makes me miss the Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD threads.
