I'm looking at getting a generator for emergency use -

Do I go HF, Generac, or Champion?

I want to run a fridge, lights, and tv/gaming system.

I've had a Champion 4000 for a few years and it's been great. Got it on sale at Cabela's for $319 with the wheel kit

I have a Centurion 5000 (Generac GP5000), I got from Lowes years ago. Been a good strong reliable generator.

For what you want and with those choices, I would go with the Champion.

I am definitely a Generac guy. Have one at home and at the farm. Next one will be a 12-15kw standby.
I also have a Devillbiss 5 Kw and a Honda 2.4 Kw.
The generacs are in my opinion the better units

more questions:

fuel type:
do you have someplace to store gasoline at your house?
will you rotate that stored gasoline periodically?
do you have natural gas service at your house?
do you have propane tanks in service at your house?

noise:
how far away are your neighbors?
how much unwanted attention would a noisy generator create?

logistics:
do you need electric start so your wife/SO can start the generator?
will you need to transport the generator in a vehicle?

other:
is your water supply municipal or from a well?
if a well, where is the pump (up top or down at the bottom of the bore)?
how is your house heated?  (forced hot air, recirc'd hot water, electric, etc)

We run a few Honda 6000 and 10,000 w units as backups at our shop and they are very, very  nice. The big plus with the Honda is the DB level compared to some of the others. I have used a Genrac before and it was great, but damn was it loud. I would put ear muffs on if I was working around it and could still hear the thing 30 feet from the house with all the doors closed.

I have at home now a 4000w Champion that is quiet, but not as quiet as the Honda. If money were not an issue I would look at the Honda.
