I need to replace a HID headlight in my wifes 97 lincoln markVIII. I look at buying it and it is like 90 freaking dollars. I see some replacements that convert it to halogen. Do these things work? I just cant take the whole 90 bucks for a bulb thing. Talked to the dealer and he said 300 bucks to replace it. I just wanna a cheaper way. Please save me hivemind.

Pay the $90 for the bulb, then turn off your daytime running lights.  You probably won't have to replace the bulb for the next 7 or 8 years.

$90 hardly seems expensive to maintain a $800 option on a car.

like buying a vette and complaining about the price of tires. That's the price you pay for luxury

Xenons for my car were $800 too.

I do complain about the price of tires. So basically bend over and grab my ankles?

Look on the bright side, at least you'll be able to see your ankles in the bright lights.

Lube up first, unless you like it rough....

....squealing like a pig helps too.  I saw it on a moovie once....

My '78 chevy truck has $6 headlights.  I haven't hit anything at night, of course, the truck is so new, that may happen any day with the untested technology that I use....

That's not really a bad price for that bulb.  Just be happy it wasn't the ballast that went.  Those are about $400 if I remeber correctly.

(I drive a '97 Mark VIII myself)

That's way less than I would've expected.

you can always check junkyards for bulbs.  I'd just cough up the $90 for the bulb and turn off the daytime running lights

I am thinking about ordering one of the halogens. I might lose 25 bucks but it will satisfy my inner cheapskate.

I know this is unrelated but...

I had a 96 Mark VIII and it was my absolute favorite car. Comfortable and very fast for its weight class.

Unfortunately, someone ran a stop sign and I ended up rammed into a guard rail. I can tell you the airbags are real exciting.

Wish I had bought another one to replace it but ended up with an F-150 instead.

hey if you really want to convert it to halogens then I'll buy the HID ballast boxes off of you.

Just go to a salvage yard and pull the part(s) you need.

If you think replacing the HIDs are expensive, just wait until one of the air bags in your suspension system starts leaking...
