Hello,

Local farmer is selling his 1988 Kawasaki KLR650.

It is in good shape with 10,000 original miles on it.

He has recently put on a new "mono-shock", tires, brakes, and tuned the carborator.

He is asking $2000.

Is this too high for the bike?

Thanks,

Fidel

Look on ebay motors...  I just did, and I wouldn't pay nowhere near that for a bike that old. $800 maybe.

WAY too high for a 1988 anything. You can pick up 2005 models with less than 1/2 the miles for under 3K all day. I'd take a look at what they're going for on ebay, that will give you good numbers to work from.

Yeah except I searched highest price first, and came up with nothing older than about a 2003.

Maybe try completed auctions... might turn some up...  otherwise it's going to be tough to judge fair market value.

Personally with 2009s going for about 4K I'd just save longer or buy an 06-08.

I'd say it's not too unreasonable since the bikes are virtually identicle for like 20+ years.

Kinda like how a 1988 ninja 250 sells for the same as a 1998 ninja 250 since they are the same bike.

I would mostly look at the condition and look for rust in the tank.

Around here the 650's go for 3k-3500 all day long.

You can take a look at the completed listings to see what people are actually paying. Hope this helps.

Try checking Kelly Blue Book or NADA online.  They cover used motorcycles.

KBB might be a little high.  The NADA avg. to low price is usually on target.

Seems a bit high for one that old, even if in good shape. If you don't buy it, let me know, I might take a road trip and check it out, I have been wanting one.

Wayyyy too high for a '88 KLR650.
