I am in need of a new cell phone and unfortunately my options are pretty limited.  The only services that work out here in the boonies are Alltel and Verizon.  I've been kinda disapointed in the Blackberry 8830 I've had for the past couple years.  The scroll ball has given me constant problems, and I'm not wild about BB user interface.  I would much rather have something windows based.

So I'm looking at new phones and the HTC Touch Pro seems to be the only thing that fits my criteria (one of which being a real keyboard, not that touch screen).  THe reviews are not so great though.  Anyone have one of these?  Care to share your experience?  I'm relly concerned with the battery life.

Wait about 45 days for the Blackberry Tour.  I have owned HTC and Windows Mobile devices and I will not subject myself to that again.  Buggy, buggy buggy.  Last HTC I owned I replaced four times in warranty exchange before they finally took it back.  Funny thing is that to this day I believe that the problems I was having were software based and not hardware based.  Unfortunately, Alltel had no clue how to support the device.
Best estimates have the 9630 launching in mid-July on Verizon.

I am a current 8830 owner and I feel your pain.  While it was a great transition for RIM it quickly became a limited phone due to its painfully limited memory and limited update support from Alltel/Verizon.

Bah!

I can't even use a Blackberry because they discontinued support for Lotus Organizer. Iphone never had support for Lotus Organizer and the office refuses to migrate from Lotus Organizer. I had no choice but to use a Windows Mobile platform again. Luckily my recently acquired Touch Pro has been ok so far but it's still early.

I have the older HTC touch pro, and have been using it since it came out.

The hardware is great and I would take it in a heartbeat over my g/f's blackberry crap.

The software has caused the phone to be replaced a couple times though, alltel didnt ask questions after I showed the cute little girl working there how to fix the phne for others.

Kinda funny, she was like "oh... neato.  We just send out new replacement phones.." why learn how to fix some simple 2 minute issue when corporate will cover the dime

One last thought, if you are going to go HTC wait a couple of months and at least get the Touch Pro 2.  While the Touch Pro is made of "fail and AIDS" the Touch Pro 2 seems to be a dramatic improvement.

Didn't Screech use that on his Macintosh Newton on Saved by the Bell?

Hmm,  I guess I am the odd ball.  Had a Touch Pro for a about 5 months now and it has been superb.  I am on sprint though and I believe they have a different model.  Yes Sprint blows but my phone has never let me down. wmwifi router application is the coolest damn thing I have ever downloaded.  As long as I have cell signal I can use the phone as a wireless router.

No Mac here but the paneling in my office is older than I am.

I didn't even want to buy a new phone but I managed to lose my aging Q Tuesday and wasn't willing to part with the $50 deductible to endure that annoyance any longer. Now I learn I might have gone from the frying pan to the fire.

My wife went through 4 of the HTC's in less than a year. Alltel/Verizon finally got tired of replacing them under warranty and we upgraded to a Blackberry. I wouldn't recommend the HTC to an enemy. They are the SUCK!

HTC Touch Diamond here. I often fantasize about smashing it with a hammer or putting a few .40 JHPs into it. The hardware is decent. The screen resolution is awesome but I FUCKING HATE the windows mobile interface. It has too many quirks IMO. I have only had it since Dec 31 2008 so I am stuck with it for a while.  I am on Sprint and have had great call quality and internet coverage FWIW.
