I have a 2 month old coleman furnace in my mobile home and it really got hot in here before the furnace kicked out. So warm that i had to crack the window for a bit. Seemed like it wasnt doing the cool off cycle long enough and stopping before the combustion chamber cooled down. I got this idea because the front of the furnace kinda smelled funny and felt hot to the touch. so i looked in the thermostat and adjusted it to 4 for a longer cycle. Well now the damn thing is running more often. Like every 10 min. But the good thing is that it doesnt get so damn hot in here. Is this crap normal or what should i look for? |

4 or .4? If you set it at .4 then it will cycle more often, all the heat anticipator does is "fool" the thermostat so the furnace will kick on a bit early and keep the house at a more stable temp. If it smells hot, clean the filters, make sure registers are OPEN in the rooms, clean the blower wheel of dust. Check to see where the furnace blower is set to turn on, has it been moved at all in the past. Has the furnace been running for a few weeks or did you just fire it up? If thats true, they ALL stink the first day or two from the dust inside the heat exchanger. Check the flame diverter/spreader also, make sure it is not broken off, it is the thing that sits above the flame and makes it widen out. CHECK FOR CO AND MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT HAVE A CRACKED HEAT EXCHANGER. You actually set the Heat anticipator to the furnace and it does not make the fnc run cooler in any way, it just tricks it a bit. Brand new fnc eh? Is the thermostat new also or is it the old one? Set it at .6 and adjust the temp to what is more comfortable. |
| Its been runnin for about 1 1/2 months now. Just how can you tell if the filters are plugged. Or do you just replace them? Also there is a flame deflector in ther that is red hot (this is normal right?) Yeah i just set that thing to .3 where it was orginially and damn im sweatin again. So if it is at .4 it cycles more but am i using more gas? OR is the fan just running more? |
| Set the heat anticipator to .6 if the furnace is new that is very close to the proper setting. You are probably not used to the new furnace, it will be more efficiant then the older one and you are setting the thermostat where the old one was set at. You will have to adjust it to YOUR liking, not what you were ONCE used to with the old one. |
No, the new furnaces are designed to run more then the older one's, that does not mean they are less efficent, or it could be a two stage where there is a low heat and a high heat. If the furnace can't warm up to temp on low heat, it will switch to hi heat and let more gas in to the burner. Is it a 90+ furnace? |
