OK So I replacing my inlaws thermostat. Its a heat pump with auxilliary. The new install has slots for E Aux Y G O L R B C The old thermostat has E W2 Y G O R and X. W2 and E are bridged. The W2 ( I am pretty sure) matches to the Aux on the new install. The X is kicking my butt. Its connected with a blue wire. Does it go to the Blue? I am thinking it goes to the C connection. True? Time is ticking (I think they will want AC soon!) Thanks |
| Heat pumps are definitely wired different from brand to brand and not all wire the same way. USUALLY the X wire is to the common side of the transformer, but I'd check my diagram to be sure. You can't always go by color designations, since some techs just use whatever wire they have on their truck and wire it accordingly. Blue MOST times goes to the B terminal which is a change-over terminal, but often the O is used for the same function.. again depending on what brand system you are working on. Some use O and some use B to determine the shift in reversing valve for cool/heat. E usually is the emergency heat (Aux) terminal, which would make sense being jumpered to W2. In most systems R is the Power terminal, W or W1 is 1st stage heat. Y cooling, O/B changeover depending on default heat or cool position of reversing valve, G is the fan terminal, X/C are usually common. Sometimes Y is used for first stage heat and cool (compressor) and the reversing valve is energized according to the position of the System (heat/cool) switch. Again I'd double check the factory diagram to be sure what terminals energize what circuits.... without looking at the diagram I can't be much more help. If you're not careful you can let out the "magic smoke" in your thermostat/circuit board, and then NOTHING will work. |
