Bought a small 1600' home in Dallas to retire in. Need to update the heater and ac. I will have spray foam added to the attic. Natural gas available. What are the best brands. Willing to pay for best quality. Both units are in the attic.

It's all about the installation.  Even the best system will not work well if installed improperly.  Make sure the installer designs the system properly and does at least a Manual J and D.  Manual S and T for a new installation.  Rigid sheet metal ducts are better than the flexible round ducts.  Roof ventilation is important as well.  They can also run air infiltration tests and use FLIR to determine hot/cold spots.  Humidifier, electrostatic filter, and fresh air exchange are bonuses.  There is also a aerosol product that can be introduced through the duct work that seals and insulates the ducts from the inside.  It creates a near leak free duct.

I went with Carrier and their 21 SEER AC and their highest efficiency nat gas furnace, old system was a heat pump.

I also used the highest regarded company locally and probably paid for it too, in fact I know I did as they also completely revamped all of my duct work and returns.

House is way more comfortable and evenly heated and cooled than ever before and utility bills are easily $100 or more a month less than before.

Is house crawlspace or slab? Package unit or split system?

Existing ductwork have flex duct in it? How many returns? Is there a air handler in attic? Do you have natural gas on property?

If your doing spray foam in attic, run any spare power wires, floodlights, data, CCTV camera wires, etc in attic before foam is done. A spare conduit or two from near electrical box and data closet will be helpful if this is the "Forever" house.
