My parents recall the Halvah in Europe during WWII.  It was the best they've ever had, and they were never able to find it in the U.S.  It was Russian, and came in huge pieces the size of cinder blocks.  We think it was made from sunflower seeds, not the sesame seed stuff you find today.   The stuff you get today is meh,  OK at best, often bad.

There are many variations.  Here in the U.S. it's usually small bars made of crushed sesame seeds and sugar.



But this is the Tier 1 Russian stuff, can't get it here.
