Yes, you read that right.
Since we're on a site dedicated to those "Evil Black Rifles", most of us are familiar with the term "fudd" to describe a gun owner who fits the following general description: A fudd is a gun owner who may or may not be a hunter who "doesn't understand why someone needs/wants to own something like that" in reference to ARs, AKs, and other "military" style weapons (but only military style weapons made after WW2. Those pre 1950s military guns are great hunting rifles, don't ya know.  )
Typical fudd statements: "What do you need 30 rounds for? If you can't hit it the first time, you need more practice" "I see no reason for a civilian to own that type of gun unless they're planning on getting in a shootout." "Those guns are only good for killin" Now, most of us here look down on fudds, because fudds also have another lovely characteristic: They are perfectly willing to compromise with anti gunners and get rid of high capacity magazines, military style weapons, etc as long as their precious hunting rifles are left alone. They fail to realize that anti gun types are never happy with just a little ban....they want to get rid of ALL the guns. These are the guys that the media find to get on the air when gun control is discussed and say half cocked things like "Now, I'm a gun owner and I'm a member of the NRA, but I don't see why you'd need more than 10 rounds in a gun" and various other stupid shit that antis use to push gun control. After fudds say things like this, the anti gunners get up and say "See! Even responsible, reasonable gun owners support our ideas". Now that the fudd history lesson is out of the way , I have a few more statements for you.

Lately in GD I've noticed a trend of what I've decided to call "handgun fudds". These are fellow gun owners, who not only own black rifles but even carry a handgun on a regular basis. But it seems like lots of gun guys act like anyone who carries something more than they do (like an extra magazine, or a modern high capacity semi auto instead of a revolver or a 1911) has something obviously wrong with them. Things are said like they must be wanna be cops, or have shoot out fantasies, or plan on going on a mass murdering spree, be a bad shot to need so many rounds, etc. Just like normal old fudds aren't very helpful when it comes to defending our second amendment rights, when you question the sanity or decision making of your fellow concealed/open carriers for carrying something different from you there is no positive result. If they ever try to restrict magazine capacity for handguns, the ability to carry reloads, etc from the statements I've read here there would be some members of ARFCOM ready to jump up on camera and talk about how silly and unnecessary it is for someone to do _____________________. My point after all this rambling? I'd like folks to take a step back, reconsider their own attitudes towards what other folks are carrying, and ask themselves: "Am I a handgun fudd?" If you answer yes, at least consider the possibility that your attitude can affect other people you interact with who may not be big "gun people", and your current attitude may have at least a slightly negative, anti gun, handgun fudd tinge to it. Just some food for thought from a random guy.

What is so confusing about this? Soldiers do the nation's bidding and protect us overseas, the police protect us here. Firearms are for harvesting game, period. There's no need for guns outside the hunting arena. Based on that, why do you need super-capacity clips? Get a clue.

History is rife with one group of gun owners selling out, or offering up, another group. One look at UK history ells you everything you need regarding fragmentation, elitism, and a desire to "not be it". Air rifle Air Pistol Smallbore Target rifle Rifle-using-Hunters shotgun-using hunters Practical shotgun Clay shooters (with sporting/skeet/trap as factions) Practical rifle NRA bullseye type handgun shooters UIT handgun shooters Black Powder handgun shooters. Practical pistol shooters. etc. etc. Such disparate groups with little to nothing in common. |

That gives you forty five shots. If you shoot that many guys then your gunfight will make world news. People will talk about it a hundred years from now. Seriously though, I think you need an M-249 SAW and some hand grenades for any reasonable chance of winning that fight.
Well it's not necessary to carry three magazines and quite frankly, most of you do have serious Walter Mitty complexes. We get alot of the "mall ninja" wannabes here
That's out of 2 threads here in the last couple of weeks. But seriously, read any "what are you carrying" "how may rounds are you carrying" "do you carry an extra magazine" thread and you'll get at least one or two handgun fudds in there spouting off about other peoples carry choices. |

My range is a Fudd range.
When my training partners and I shoot our pistols, the Fudds think we're all trying to be James Bond or something. They shoot their scoped revollvers from a seated position....leaning on a bench rest....taking 10 or more seconds to line up each shot. Hey, to each his own. The funny thing is, they sometimes try to educate us by saying that we're wasting our time shooting at targets 7 yards away (and sometimes closer). I've written about it here before. I hope the bad guys stand still while the Fudds take a seat, get out the bench rest, and take 10 seconds to line up their kill shots. |

I've yet to see anything like that.You might be mistaking it with poking fun at the 5'5'' 275lb guy that thinks he needs to pack 7 pistols 60 mags and 15 flashlights to go to the 7-11 so that in the event that he finds a maiden in distress he might save the day and finally find out what a vagina feels like.

For the record, my daily carry was a 1911 for several years. Not that it matters, because this isn't an anti this gun or pro that gun thread. This is a "stop bashing what someone else carries if they carry a higher capacity gun than you or a reload, because thats a fuddish thing to do" thread. |

| So, based on reading your description, despite the fact that I am a confirmed 1911 and revolver guy (never owned a double stack gun in any caliber), since I feel you should be able to own and carry whatever you want, I am NOT a Fudd? Good to know. Just don't call me undergunned when I've got my 1911 on the hip and my 442 in a pocket and I'll be perfectly happy to "compromise" with your choice to carry a fantastic plastic gun. |
