So I was enjoying some Stilton cheese tonight when it suddenly struck me:
Why doesn't the UK produce any handguns for consumption in the international market? Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, et al ––––––––-all have some degree of gun control which restricts handgun ownership in their respective domestic markets and yet these nations produce huge numbers of firearms for the international market. So why not Britain? |

Well let's wait for a UK member to be sure but I believe the controls in the UK are much more restrictive on handguns. For all the others there is still some domestic market. True but these companies couldn't survive depending solely on the numbers involved in domestic sales. What I'm asking here is this: Considering the fact that Britain is a major economic world power and considering that other European economic world powers have cashed in on the international (particularly the US) handgun market, why hasn't any British manufacturing company attempted to cash in on this market? One would think it would be a no-brainer. |

Not sure. Probably no company wants to make one.
They probably have small arms export laws which would prohibit them from selling to civilians. So that is likely out of the question. And maybe no company wants to step up and compete against the many established gun makers. Quoted:
Right, because i want a pistol made by the people who brought the world this: http://world.guns.ru/assault/sa80-iw.jpg The SA-80A2 is about as reliable as an M16. The original one sucked. The A2 is good. |
