I have a smsung 160Gb harddrive that has appearently crashed I watched as windows said the files where curupting, now i can't even see any data ti reads likes theres nothing on it. any ideas on getting it back. |

Your only chance of getting your data is to hook up that drive as a slave drive to another computer and dig for your files. It just sounds like your windows files are corrupt which won't let you into windows, which means usually your files that you want to save are ok, but it is still possible you might not get anything out of it. Your drive sounds like its physicaly ok, you should just have to format and reinstall everything on it and it should work fine. Before you do that you might wanna make sure. Go to the hard drive manufacture's website and you can download some tools to test the drive. Run every test you can, keep in mind this make take 2-6 hours to do. |

spinrite link Spinrite 6.0 can't be beat IMHO.... now if the data is damage by a physical crash and money is not an object disk savers |
|
spin rite rocks... also try Norton disk doctor... or what about chkdsk, or scandisk??? did U try to boot into the recovery console?? (assuming XP as the OS) also try majorgeeks.com to see if they have recovery SW..... if u can DL a copy of Hiren's boot CD- you problems are easily solved... try googling for it if you're not familar w/ it. |

If you're not comfortable cracking another PC open and installing your drive as a slave, try this: www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=12-156-001&depa=0 $20 for an IDE-to-USB adapter. Just rip your failing drive out of your system and use this to plug it into the USB port on another computer. That computer will see it as a removable storage device. |
That's one very cool adaptor ! I just ordered one for work. We usually just slave them from another PC but this is very cool. A must for any geek ! |
We have one here at work too. It really saves us work when we upgrade someone's PC and need to grab some data off their old HD or for a bunch of other uses. |
