A couple evenings ago I was looking through craigslist just seeing what people were selling.

An ad with no photo caught my eye.  I decided to follow up on the ad and called the next day.  An hour later and $1200.00 poorer I walked away with a smile on my face.

I bought a 2000 Cagiva Gran Canyon 900.  I very nice Italian engineered motard/ralley/street hybrid with an awesome Ducati 900 Monster engine grafted in.  The bike has seen better days, but the engine runs great, started right up on a cold 30 degree morning near instantly.  The plastics are a little scuffed here and there.  It needs new brake and clutch levers and some new tires, but after a little attention, it's going to be an awesome ride.

There were only 500 of these models imported to the U.S. during a two year span.  Engine parts are easy to get, and the motor is easy to work on, but the body parts are much more difficult to find.

Today I rode the bike from the dealer to my shop.  I'll put some new rubber on the bike tomorrow (same tire size as my Vstrom).  I'll also order and replace the cam belts as I don't know when they were last changed.  I'm also going to check and adjust the valves.

Im not sure yet, but I might want to repaint the plastics.  I REALLY like the all red model of this bike.  I'm not too keen on the black and red color scheme.

Anyway, here are a couple of photos,, taken as it idled in front of my shop.

Man, parts for this thing are hard to find.  I spent a couple hours looking for the brake and clutch levers.  Finally found a pair on ebay.

I knew this going in, but it is sure different than buying parts for a domestic or Japanese bike!
