Is one repair manual better than the other, or is it pretty much a wash?

Haynes sucks way less than Chilton.

But the FSM is the real deal.

Haynes sucks less than Chilton, but Factory manuals are the only way to go.

This.  Alldatadiy.com sucks too.

Helm Inc. is the publisher of many factory service manuals and all are excellent in my experience.

Everyone nailed it. FSM is only way to go. You may be able to find one online in pdf file.

When I had Dodges, I used both.

Chilton was detailed and harder to follow, but had more info in it.
Haynes was pretty much dummy proof, but left some info out.

On my Tacoma I keep a Haynes in the truck(just in case), but primarily use a downloaded FSM and youtube at home.

I find you really need both. But if you only get one get the Haynes

Go to your public library and either get the factory service manual on CD or microfiche and download it or make a paper copy of the section you need.

If you google hard enough, you should be able to find the FSM for what you have. Or find a place to buy the pdf / cd / dvd / memory implant / etc

What year make model?
