I have this handgun out of grandpa's safe. Information on it from my family is nil. Can you help give a manufacturer and any other info. I believe is it s a 7.65mm (stamped on slide).
Only markings i can make out are 'CHL. 7.65' on the slide
And the grip show an SSu or some combination of those letters. See pic.
Thanks for any help!

Left side view, decocker lever just like on the Sig 22X-series.

You guys got it. Thanks very much.
Looks like this is a later model of the gun. It does not have the manual safety, but does have the decocker. If anyone has any idea on value i would be interested to hear, i am doing the research now. And order new grips.
Thanks again!

JP Sauer

in September 2004 the Rock Island Auction Company sold a Sauer 38H, serial number 363573, that belonged to S.S. Colonel-General Joseph "Sepp" Dietrich for $43,125.00.

Your welcome, that is your gift for helping me out. I have found a lot of great info now. I am trying to find out how i could do some serial number searching on the gun. Maybe find some back info. Any idea where i could start looking that up... German archives!?!?

I may be interested in the 38H.  Do you have any back story on it?  Was your Grandfather a WWII vet?  What unit, theatre, etc?

Oh, i wont be selling it, not planning on it anyway. I just got off the phone with my grandpa actually. After refreshing his memory with the details you guys helped me find, he remembered his grandpa, or dad (not sure), gave it to him when he was deploying to Korea. I have found a website where i can send in the serial number and info on the gun and hopefully get some info back. I will post my findings though, and see if my great grandma has any info.

Didn't catch that.  I've never laid hands on one, but every other photo I've seen of one shows a traditional slide-mounted safety.

Numrich has grips for $25.10 plus shipping. It would be a good way to replace the cracked right grip if you want to shoot it in the future. Being out-of-production, I wouldn't wait long to get a new set of grips. Once they're gone, they're gone.

Could someone point out the "Waffen Amps".  I don't know what to look for in the pictures, but am interested in understanding the comment.

Thanks

A Waffenamt (aka Waffenampt, as I know it, even if it is incorrectly spelled) is a WWII/pre-WWII Nazi Germany proof/acceptance mark.

Eagle over Swastika (usually), with a number..WaA243 would be an example of such a mark.

Here is an example.
They are generally pretty small on firearms.
