| I hesitate to put this in GD, however I am at my wits end. I have a cat that goes outside and he brought fleas into the house. The cat has not been outside in 10 days. I got him a flea collar last week. On friday I flea bombed the whole house. On monday I flea bombed the house again. I sprayed the carpets with flea spray. I put the flea drops on the back of the cat's neck. I rubbed flea powder into the cat's fur. Today I sponged the cat with liquid flea treatment. The fleas are still in the house. I just took a nap after work and woke up with 6 fleas on my legs. How do I get rid of these things ? My legs are chewed to hell from these things biting me. I am on a limited budget and can not afford to hire a pro. So far I have put out over $100 on all these poisons and I am still seeing fleas crawling on me. BTW I have had cats that go outside my entire life and I have never had a flea problem before. |

Quoted: You must be using the Hartz stuff. Use the Frontline on your cat and the spray stuff that kills the eggs. Avoid anything with pyrethrins for the cat's sake. It may take a Month to get them under control so be patient Impeach Obama for the Good of the Animals. this, my ferret cought fleas from my nanas dog(technically from me i suppose) and about 2 days after i put frontline on her the fleas in the house were no longer biting me and all the ones i found on her were dead or lethargic. also i use Revolution on her during the summer now just in case. also you may need advantage if frontline does not work depends on what the other people in the area use your fleas may be immune to one or the other. |

1) Put cat outside. Feed cat a dose of "Capstar". It kills fleas in 30 minutes or so. It doesn't repel them - it kills 'em.
2) While cat is outside, vacuum the entire house. Move furniture to do it. Do not go half-assed on this. Apply anti-flea carpet powder before vacuuming (if the product is cat safe). Hopefully they're just in the carpet. Have any clothes in hampers at the moment? Wash 'em now. 3) If the cat has a place in the house that it likes to curl up and sleep on, get rid of it or vacuum it. 4) Flea bomb again as needed. 5) Vacuum daily. Really. 6) Consider not letting the cat outside or use something like Frontline on the cat (again, if it is safe on cats). This can be a problem that lasts for months. The key is dealing with / getting rid of the SOURCE of the infestation (the cat), and daily vacuuming. Oh... and don't leave a vacuum cleaner with a bag full of fleas in our house. They will love you for it. |

I did vacuum after I bombed. Vacuuming does NOT get all of the flea Eggs. You have to spray everything including sofas, carpets and beds. And it may be necessary to treat around the House. Impeach Obama for the Good of the Children. |

This is funny but you get a sense of accomplishment and have fewer fleas. When we had a flea problem I found a pair of 70's style over the knee white socks. I'd walk around first thing in the morning and several times a day criss crossing the rooms covering every carpet. The fleas were easy to spot on the socks and I would grab them and put them in a cup of soapy water. I loved watching them drown. I caught dozens of them this way. The other thing that worked well for the adult fleas was to hang a night light 6 inches above a paper plate of Tanglefoot insect glue. At night they all go toward the light and end up stuck on the plate. They sell flea traps that do this as well. Maple syrup would probably work. This place can help as well. |

Quoted: I used this for the carpet in combination with ADAMS flea shampoo and then FRONTLINE on the pet. The current fleas were gone the next day, and it took a couple more days to kill any hatching offspring. You can find diatomaceous earth at Lowes (4lbs for about $7). Diatomacious Earth. eta: I also had the yard sprayed. |

Just went through this. We’ve been flea free for over 15years. Last month my dog gets into a fight with a raccoon family and wham.... 0 to a bazzilion in a few days. We tried a bunch of products we could buy locally and none worked for more than a day or two. we had it under control in just a couple of days and haven't seen any in over two weeks.
we used the boric acid powder and ultracide in the house http://store.doyourownpestcontrol.com/Catalog/Yearly-Flea-Treatment and Suspend SC and Precor in the yard http://store.doyourownpestcontrol.com/search.aspx?criteria=suspend+sc http://store.doyourownpestcontrol.com/Product/Precor-IGR-Concentrate |

Your neighbors are all laughing their asses off.
Knockout ES. Gotta buy it from your vet. $15-20 a can. Treat your cat with frontline or whatever cats are supposed to have and spray everything in the house with the Knockout following the directions. The stuff works, pricy yes but it works far better then any store bought stuff. |

kill all the squirrels you can find in your trees. notorious flea carriers. if you've got squirrels, your pets have fleas. then follow the excellent advice listed above. may want to think about a professional exterminator to de-flea the house. then do a major clean up, vacuum and mop everything.

It may take a Month to get them under control so be patient Impeach Obama for the Good of the Animals. The restrictions on generic versions of Frontline have expired, and there are now generics available. I agree wholeheartedly about avoiding the Hartz crap, it doesn't work. This summer we have been using a generic version of Frontline on our cat and dogs, it is sold at Walmart and Sams Club under the name "Pet Armour and Pet Armour plus". We have always used Frontline in the past, and when I saw this at Sams I was wary, so I looked it up, and decided it was worth a shot. The animals got fleas early this year, so it kind of snuck up on me, and by the time we got them something they were getting eaten alive. Within hours the animals stopped itching for the most part, and within two days had stopped completely. It is good stuff. ETA: The generic Frontline at Walmart is about $25 for three monthly doses, regardless of size. That is about half of what I was paying for a single dose of Frontline at the Vet. |

I did vacuum after I bombed. You're not even close to being done. Treating your critter with a good flea killer/repellent like Frontline is step one ( I use Revolution on my dogs, I don't know what is best for cats). Step two is washing anything the cat has laid on like blankets and the like. Step three is vacuum. Steps four through fifty is vacuum some more. I would vacuum at least every other day for two or three weeks or until the fleas are gone. |

There is no way you had live fleas in your house if you cat hadn't been out and you bombed it twice. How many bug bombs did you use? My house got infested several summers ago. I bombed the house, gave the cats a flea bath, flea power on the carpet and furniture, then vacuumed. A few days later I put Revolution flea treatment on the cats. About a month later I repeated all of that again. Fleas were gone. Don't use the over the counter flea treatments, they don't work and can make the cats sick. Flea collars do nothing and are a waste of money. When I bomb the house I put 2 bombs in every big room and 1 bomb in every small room. Make sure you let the bomb work for 4 hours and don't have your central air circulating. |

Demon wp and precor mixed together for inside the house, it's safe to use around kids and pets. Chlorpyrifos or something like that, it came in a silver fifty lb bag in grainular form. The guy at the nursery said to use one fifty lb bag per acre. But in my madness/rage I used four bags for my one acre. I also don't have anymore damned fleas. All in all, it might have taken two to three days before the evil little bastards were all gone and that's been about a month and a half ago. Good luck!!!
Edit: All above will kill the eggs as well. The guy at the nursery said the demon wp and precor is safe to use on animals. |

Frontline and the like will do the trick eventually because it sterilizes the current generation and stops the nearly unstoppable cycle of growth with fleas. The diatomecious earth thing is good because it slices up the larva crawling in the carpets. Had an infestation start from my mom's cat who she insisted was treated but wasn't. Got so bad for a while that you could watch see the bastards hopping onto your socks by the droves in the basement. It became a no-go zone for a few weeks. Front-line on the cat took care of it long term and repeated attacks with spray, D.E. and depriving them of any food for a few weeks also cleared the basement. They are real SOBs to get killed off though. I remember the days prior to front-line and they were not good days.
Tip: A plate with soapy water under a lamp at night in the rooms will gauge the progress. They are attracted to the light and hop into the plate and drown. You'll be able to see how effective you are being by monitoring that. |

Feline Revolution. Go to vet, get this, put on cat. Do not turn your home into a toxic waste dump with bombs, sprays, powders, etc.

No matter what you do, it will take 30 days to eliminate the fleas. You have flea eggs, larvae, and pupae in your home. Nothing will kill the pupae. Trust me on this. Put revolution on the cat and turn her loose in your house. The fleas will jump on her and quickly die. Keep using Revolution and the fleas will not return again. This advice is for cats only. Revolution is not as effective on dogs. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
