I have a two handled Delta faucet on my tub. The hot water side was leaking so I opened her up, and replaced the little rubber grommet and the spring, and put in a new grey and white plastic valve. I put it all back together, and now I can only turn the water down, but not off. Where did I go wrong? Can someone tell me how this correctly goes together from the beginning so I can check my work and see where the trouble is??
Thank you in advance, Mark

my guess is that the grey/white valve is not in the right position..

I had a similar issue with a kitchen faucet - after my repair, you had to push the handle away from you to turn the water on - but you should have to pull it toward you.. I had the valve in the wrong place, I think I rotated it slightly

Generally the stem valve (That rotates) was inserted @ a 180 degree from the way it was inserted before. Good job replacing the seat! It happens to us plumbers/maintenance folk a lot. When we remove the stem, replace the seat, we forget which way it went in (either at a 12 o’clock, or 6 o’clock, generally the stem has 2 grooves in it so that it can seat a certain way, then a retaining nut to hold it in. Just flip it to the opposite direction and see what happens! Be carful that the seat doesn’t pop out in the process (Cause it does have a spring on it) Either way, let me know what happens! If that dosent work, if you can find the model number, I can look it up in our shop book and might be able to scan in the diagram for you. ;) Good luck!

Parts breakdown

Did you put the spring in first?

I see a lot of people reverse the sping/seat order.the seat should be riding against the bottom of the stem.

(the three handle, and two handle are the same, except for he diverter stem)

I have seen that happen when the spring is installed upside down, it should be installed with the large side down like a pyramid.

No, I put the cup in first. I finally figured it out and now everything is groovy. Thanks for the help.
