...So the dishwasher just stopped in the middle of the cycle, and it won't come back on. According to the GF (I wasn't doing anything with it...), she opened it after she started the cycle to add some stuff, and then it just quit after 5 minutes. It's a whirlpool, about 10 years old. I just bought the house, so I have no idea on the service history. I did get a home warranty, but I haven't got the info right now, so I can't get it looked at 'till I get that info. Here's what I know: - Circuit breakers fine. - There is nothing 'obvious' disconnected underneath. Anyone know anything? Thanks! |

Hello... sorry Im late in responding... just got on line... OK WHIRLPOOL has a door switch that sends power to the timer and actually if that gets cut off... unit is dead as a door nail. Here is what you do, FIRST UNPLUG THE UNIT!!! then check that the plug, where the unit is plugged into works... plug in a blender or light or what ever you have \. If that is good, The door to the dishwasher has like 10 screws around the frame, take them out and CAREFULLY split the door. (has an inner panel and an outer panel) the switch is in the outer panel. Sometimes you can even smell a burnt electrical smell if you stick your nose in the handle area. I dont know your backround on electrical know-how but if you have an ohm-meter, check your continuity of that switch. may be FUBAR internally. The other thing is that you should do is BEFORE you take the door apart, (Im sorry, its been a long day so if I seem all over the board, its because I am thinking of things with your dishwasher as I type) plug in the DW (if you know there is poser to the unit) and put your ear up by the timer... if you hear the motor running (sounds like a clock ticking) then the switch in the door is OK. DEEP BREATH......  Last but not least (I know I will think of more things after I type this) ... WITH THE UNIT UNPLUGGED remove the kickplate (4 screws) and check the junction box where the main power line comes in. Sometimes installers strip the wires on the wiring and they strip too much. Whereas it builds up heat (like a fuse) and eventually the wire burns out. Just cut off the burnt wire end and re strip and connect. That'll keep ya busy for a few hours....

I think it was the 'slap that bitch' comments. MrsGloftoe could be a little irristated. (along with my better half...) Thanks for all the help, DrFrige... I'll get looking at it this afternoon (I've got to meet the movers this AM... We're still having furniture moved.) I'll probably have to buy an ohm-meter... No telling where mine is at this point... I'll let you know... I'm a CHEMICAL engineer, so I did have an intro to electricity class or two... I ought to be able to avoid electricuting myself... I did look for shorts, but I didn't pull the unit out... I'll have to do that. No idea where the ohm |
