| This has started recently. Whenever I start up the computer, before anything else happens, a screen pops up that says something like, "main drive 0 is operating outside of normal specifications. Back up your harddrive yadda yadda". What does that mean? This is a rather new harddrive. It should last many more years. Has this happened to anyone else, and am I in danger of losing everything? |

back up everything and prepare for RMA. if it's a fairly new drive (within say the last 3 years), and it's telling you it's broke, there's a pretty good chance it's broke. the self-diagnostics built into most drives these days work pretty well, the software that exploits it works even better. seagate has software that tells you how long your drive will last (give you an expiration date). hard to say though, i have no idea about what you're running for sure... it's possible it's just a combination of things and the drive is fine. |
Sometimes HDs failure without any mechanical symptoms, such as weird noises. Maybe its electronic where it drops every other bit. But I would definitely contact the manufacturer for further instructions. |
