| 1997 Cavalier. 98K miles. Stumbles, coughs on acelleration. No power at all. In drive stopped at light, stumbles and dies. Running but in neutral, stumbles and dies. |
| I had similar but not exact problems in my 2003. All I could find was a very loose ground cable at the battery. Mine never died at idle but would become very rough. Tightened the connection at the battery and haven't had problems since. Then again, it's my wifes car and she probably wouldn't say anything if it was happening. I drive it occasionaly to save some gas VS my jeep and haven't noticed it. |

Did your problems just start happening???
Has the car sat for awhile with gas in tank? Water in gasoline? Try isopropyl alcohol and a full tank of gas. However, if your fuel pump is failing, (high pitched whine from the tank) you may have to find a way to empty the tank to replace the pump. Change fuel filter ever? |

None of the above, new fuel filter. I have a code reader and it is not showing anything wrong. |

Will it catch and accelerate after it stumbles if you feather the gas pedal? If you have Bosch platinum plugs, try normal plugs. It sounds like that, or something else is creating a weak spark. |

See the problem is. We need to know what your MAF/baro reading is what fuel rail psi is. Does the TP reading increase in a smooth fashion or does it have a voltage glitch. If it runs if you keep the pedal pushed but wont idle then it is most likely the IAC ( idle air control valve) but that would not cause lack of power on accel. |

Fuel pump shot? No, no noise at least A pump not pumping often doesn't make any noise. In fact, if you don't hear ANYTHING, I would be suspicious. I can hear my fuel pump run for a few seconds if I turn the ignition on and listen, without starting the engine. |
