I originally posted this in the AR forum, but had no luck. The rifle is a turd. I just had an AR clone dropped off for me to fix. It's a Jamomatic, and in the first few minutes I've found a bad extractor spring, a bad disconnector, and apparently the magazine rides too high in the reciever, causing the bolt to rub. It's obviously a cast receiver. Only marking are "RMAI 223-NATO" and "LMGT.CO". Anyone know who made this thing? The owner bought it off some guys shoulder at a gun show in 1997. It hasn't worked correctly since then. Oh, the fun of working on this abomination. Semper Fi |

i found this www.bellmtcs.com/forum/index.php?s=d7a2ecfb8989aab5a1d55c835f5fa622&act=ST&f=24&t=1501&st=0entry7984 it references the RMAI 223 as what sounds like the chambering. never heard of RMAI223 before. Hey, I've seen those pictures somewhere before So I take it you like them then Doggonit, now I gotta try to buy me one before this youngun' gets here. Seriously though, you say that full tilt 308 Alpo loads loosen one up pretty quick. What about the starting loads I use in my Encore. 54.0 grains of H4350? They average 2853fps with a 165 SST in my Encore. That's factory 30-06 velocity with less powder, less backthrust on the frame and less recoil. I think the 223 A.I. or 223 RMAI would be just the ticket for a varmit rifle. Or the little 22x357 max improved. As for Wal-mart, I ain't gettin' a special deal or anything. This is their special catalog order price. You can find their catalog online here. Wal-Mart Special order guns and Ammunition Ya'll better not buy 'um out until I get mine. Ah, go ahead, buy all you want they'll make more. David, thank you sir for the information. |
my NET-FU is strong tonight |
I wonder if you can just look at some of the brass and see if it was fireformed to a 223 Ackley Improved chamber. |
ever considered RMAI was stamped on after the conversion was done? i've seen it. And NATO barrells are generally marker 556 |
Your NET-FU is very strong to night Master Beer_Slayer. Remove the front sight post, slide a new AR underneath, return FS post, bill customer, problem fixed

From the way the original poster described it, it should have been stamped "POS 223". |

Well, after I stripped the rifle down to the receiver, and gave it a good cleaning this is what I found: 1. The casting appears to be soft, the selector stops are peening over from being hit by the selector lever. 2. The extractor spring is toast, and the buffer was missing. 3. The charging handle is very soft, and deformed. 3. The trigger is apparently soft, deforming on the sear face (it's why it failed a function check). 4. Many of the other parts, buffer, detents, handguards, etc. seem to be recycled .mil stuff. I think getting it running won't be a problem, but it's definitely plinker status only. The owner paid $700.00 back in '97!!! I was buying new Bushmasters for less than that. He got taken. Thanks for the help. Semper Fi |
| I have seen one AR chambered in .223 Ackley Improved. It did have feeding problems due to the case having less body taper than a standard .223/5.56. You also need to modify the feed lips in the mags. just a bit to allow for less body taper as well. IMHO, with as small as the .223 case is anyway, there is not much gained when going to the AI chambering. With cases such as .308 or .30-'06 or .22-250, this is a different story. |
Well maybe it has some collector value. It appears to be one of a kind.

looks like the only thing they are doing now is smith work and refinishing. might shoot them an email. mike |
That's all I could find, too, but one page listed them as a barrel source. |
