I am writing an email (CC'd to her boss) to the woman that wrote this piece:

Assault Rifles being used on Indianapolis streets

That came from this thread: Here

Here is my letter so far.  Please help me write this as it is late and I want to be a good spokesperson

Dear Ms. Rodriguez,

I am slightly disheartened and mildly upset at the article written by you.  I understand that violent criminals are a problem here in the Indy Metropolitan area, however by using Don Davis as a source for your firearm "facts" is disingenuous at best and downright shady at worst.

Don Davis is a hypocrite.  In the picture in the same article you wrote, there is an "assault" rifle on the wall behind him.  Ironic that the man who states that they can "shoot down airplanes and shoot a mile" has one for sale in his store.  Also, the quote by Lt. Doug Scheffel of the IMPD is insulting to a person such as myself and literally millions of others like me, who own these "assault" rifles.  There doesn't need to be a "legitimate" purpose for owning ANY weapon at all as long as it is done lawfully.  I have a feeling that these facts have fallen upon deaf ears, as your piece was fraught with bias and slanted to misdirect the uneducated.  Please understand that more than 99% of all firearms owners are respectful, law abiding citizens.

The letter sounds good. I would get rid of the words that I struck through. If you are only mildly upset, I don't think they will take you as seriously.

ETA: Isn't Don that wierd guy that does those crazy commercials? I don't know how they can take him seriously.

I have a feeling that they are using Don's guns to illustrate a crazy negative view of gun owners. Gun grabbers don't care about the facts and logic. They rely on emotion and personality to fulfill their agenda. I hope they reconsider and talk to that Russ guy to get the facts straight. Your letter sounds good. I would send it to them and see what they say. I'm interested in hearing what they tell you.

The strikes and substitutions I put are merely personal preference.  Overall the letter is well written and I feel the length is good.  If you have any inkling to make it longer, I would avoid doing so as you risk the letter being skimmed over.
