So heres the deal. I have about $5k to play with. What kind of truck should I look for? I want it to be 4x4 for starters. Ill be using this for light off road to go hunting fishing and to the range as well if the weather gets shitty. Any suggestions?

Buy the cleanest lowest mileage gmt400 you can find with a TBI 350

Stick preferred but the auto is about as good (or bad) as everyone else's to that's sort of a wash

I know the "vortec" engine runs better but TRUST me they are ALWAYS needing something fixed

Early 90's Toyota pickup, I hate Toyota but those are some awesome trucks.

I'd go after a late 90's Toyota with a manual trans and V6. Either that or a late 90's early oughties Mazda B series (they are generally cheaper than their Ranger counterparts but it is the exact same truck).

Full sized, I'd go after either a 12 valve Dodge or a late 80's GM HD. The only weak point I've ever found in newer GM pickups is the 4L60E. Vortec is a broad term for a bunch of different GM engines. I've only had one issue with my Atlas based Vortec that wasn't covered by the warranty. It's hard to go wrong with a 350 though.
