Been wanting a multi-tool for years, but honestly know nothing about them. My brother has a pair where he 'flicks' the pliers out somehow; always thought that was pretty inventive. Looking for something with quality blades, multiple functions, realistic use, and possible tools to use on my AR's. (I know there's a MT out there for that) Opinions? |

SOG PowerLock multi tool hands down the best multi tool I have ever owned/used. Awesome patented compound leverage assist. Customer service is phenomenal. I use mine multiple times on a daily basis. The pliers with the "flicking action" are probably Gerber brand. Pinch you more than anything. Leatherman tools are not very good. Broke both pairs I've had at the pliers. |

Thanks for the great details. I like that SOG. |
| I just went through this. I already had Leather MUT that I keep with my shooting stuff but wanted something different for EDC. After much comparing I settled on the Leatherman Charge Titanium. I have been wearing it for 2 weeks now and I believe I have used it everyday. I added an outlet in my bathroom the other day and decided to only use the Leatherman to perform the task. Other than a tape, pencil and multi-meter it did the job. |
|
I've tried:
Gerber SOG Leather man I alway come back to my good old leather man wave. I have a super tool 3000 I carry as well. I'll get a mut someday for ARs or a multi tasked tool. The sog I wasn't terribly impressed with. If you must buy something non-leatherman, then the Gerber designs are decent. |
|
I have a leatherman MUT as well, and love it. However, it is one of the more expensive leathermans, and I didnt buy it.
I believe the ones that can be flicked out are either a couple years old gerber or leatherman - not sure how strong those would be long term. I would go with maybe the supertool 300, or whichever one has the best pliers in your opinion. |
|
I have a black Leatherman Wave and use it every day. A spring broke in my original one and I sent it back to Leatherman for warranty repair. I was lost without it but a little over a week later I had a brand new one along with a very nice leather belt pouch. They didn't even ask for a receipt! I have tried a few other similarly priced multi-tools from SOG, Gerber and SAK and I much prefer the Leatherman. It a really fine tool with a great warranty and the very best customer service I have ever experienced. |
|
I was disappointed with the MUT. As an every day carry it's bulky and not very useful. Mine basically lives in my range bag now and I'm back to carrying a Wave day to day. The screwdriver bits are particularly maddening. I need a 2nd multi tool to get them out of where they store in the MUT. How about standard square bits instead of those weird rectangular proprietary ones ? |
| I will be the odd man out and say Gerber. The MP600 is a great tool. I have used Gerbers for decades and havent had any issues. They are like any other tool...if you use it for something it wasnt intended to do you might break it. If you stick to what it was built for it will last you a good long time. And being able to open and close the pliers one handed is a big plus to me. |

Quoted: Tim Leatherman is less than supportive of the 2nd Amendment, among other things... Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Since it hasn't been posted in this thread yet, Fuck Leatherman. Care to share why? Tim Leatherman is less than supportive of the 2nd Amendment, among other things... Yup, his support for Kerry back in the day is enough for me not to buy his stuff. It's a shame too, cause they do make a nice tool. |

I liked mine so much I now have two. |

Did some research and it seems Tim Leatherman supported Kerry in 2004. I would argue that Kerry is no more anti-gun than Romney. Does that mean I should boycott every company that supported Romney in 2012? Leatherman is a fine American company and makes a great product and I am not going to fault them because the owner voted for a democrat 10 years ago. |

OP, you want a Leatherman Wave. It is the Glock 19 of the multitool world. The Charge posted above is tits as well, but it's $$$. eta: http://thebullspeaks.com/2004/11/a-letter-from-a-citizen-mr-leatherman/ |

+1 for the Leatherman Wave but in black. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31YFuzRtYIL.jpg You will not use 85% of those tools on the the wave. |

| I have a lot of multitools my favorite are the Leatherman surge for a full size tool smaller than that a Swisstool then a swisstool spirit or leatherman wave. Leatherman stuff is tougher than people are giving it credit and they have the best warranty of any company I have ever seen. Send them a broken tool they send you a new one no questions asked. |

I'm not a leatherman fanboy, but I don't get the hate. Can someone please show me some evidence of leatherman's anti gun policies? I know the owner stated he supported Kerry-Edward 11 years ago, but so did some 60+ other outdoor gear companies mentioned in that statement. I don't get the anti gun thing. The statement he made in support of Kerry-Edwards was related to some silly hippy environmental BS. Sure, it's stupid, and you could argue that he was indirectly supporting anti-gun policies by supporting a liberal platform. I find no fault in that logic - it's true - but I don't understand how a company with an owner supporting a democrat platform over a DECADE ago that now sells various products specifically targeting black-rifle enthusiasts is still strictly anti-gun. It was and is stupid, sure, but Leatherman seems to be leaning more to the right than the left in their support of guns just going by the products they're offering. You'd be hard pressed to find any outdoors gear that isn't produced by people that in some way support liberal environmental BS.
This is totally unrelated, but most if not ALL car companies are generally left leaning, but do you see arfcomers avoiding all car manufacturers? I'm all for avoiding/boycotting strictly anti-gun and liberal companies, but ARFCOM seems to pick and choose who they support. Toyota is universally worshiped on here but Leatherman, who actually makes products for gun owners, is despised. Don't get me wrong, I get the hate for liberal companies, but maybe Leatherman has changed? Today's leartherman has not one but three or more multitools built specifically for black rifle and/or general gun and bow maintenance. Furthermore, as I understand it, Leatherman supposedly has a fairly decent presence in 3gun and other competitive shooting venues. ETA: Looks like Leatherman now offers at least 6 specific purpose built multitools for guns/bows, with 4 of them focusing on AR15s. |

Great AR tool! However, I think I want something with more functionality. Then again, simpler sometimes is better. Thanks for the reply! Quoted:

Multitasker. It's heavy and bulky but I love mine. Then again, simpler sometimes is better. Thanks for the reply! I have a few. My favorite is my simplest one the Leatherman PST I also like my SOG EOD tool. I have been eyeballing a Multitasker for awhile. |
