I have am Acer computer and it is in "sleep" mode, the power button light is flashing, when I try to turn it on by pushing the power button nothing happens. The monitor has
power, the light is on anyway, but won't turn on and the lights on the keyboard won't come on either like the numbers lock and caps lock lights. The printer also has power.
I tried to turn it on and hold the f2 button with no luck and tried turning the power off and unplugging the mouse and keyboard then turning the power back on with no luck
there either. Anyone have any ideas?

Unplug the bugger.

Then try to fire it back up.  Does it go right back to "sleep"?

Thank You very much that seemed to have worked and everything is back on. It sucks to be so computer illiterate, Thanks again.

I started out on an Imac with OS 8.6 then when I could use it fairly well we switched to a Compac with XP Pro and now have an Acer with
Vista. Everything is some what the same but has different names so when I have a problem like this I feel like going back to microfiche,
newspapers and telephones with cords.

Some machines go into hibernate and require pressing the enter key to exit hibernation.

No problemo.  Other option is to press and hold the power button for 10-20 seconds.  That should pretty much do the same as pulling the plug.

Sounds like the thing was asleep though.  Sometimes a quick press of the power button will bring it back.  Sometimes moving the mouse or hitting a few keys on the keyboard.  Sometimes though, the computer will "hang" in sleep mode and nothing but a forced reboot will get it back to happy.

And don't be hard on yourself.  Nobody's born knowing this stuff.  That's the cool thing about arfcom.  No matter the question, you're going to find a few guys who know, a few guys who think they do, and a few guys who don't know anything but want to say hi anyway
