Started this thread a while back in the A2 AR section. A2 Colt optics help
Not many replies so I am cross posting. I have been spoiled by flat tops and optics I guess. The Colt seems like a nice rifle and I like Colt products, but want more than irons. So I guess my only choice is an upper swap. I have a SPR upper with stainless Shaw,IIRC barrel, etc.sitting on a old PWA lower.Could just swap uppers but not wanting to. So besides an ACOG, what optic in the 3-400 range would work on the Colt Match Target HBAR with A2 config/non removable carry handle? I would like for the Colt to be my varmit, deer, carry with me/truck gun instead of one of my HD carbine builds. But with tired eyes, I need some form of glass. But carry handle mounting and the height above bore limits travel and cheek weld sucks. So, adding a pad to stock no big deal. Am I pissing up a rope? Has anyone else used a budget optic on a A2 build and had good results? No I am not going to tapco fuck or cut the carry handle off. |

Just too damned tall. I don't do chin welds. That was my thinking. The ARMS or was it Swan gooseneck mount I used years ago for a RDS on the wife's first A2 build worked okay IIRC. A short 1-4 or 1-6 mounted on that might work but the eye relief would be FUBAR . Guess I will just preserve it and throw it in the safe for my son who is five. |

Stick with irons. This, if you are set on getting an optic sell this rifle and get a flat top. The match rifles are optimized for match shooting with iron sights, nothing more satisfying than a nice tight group using irons. I'd equate it to learning to drive a manual transmission, it is always good to be able to utilize old school tech. |

I have a Hakko Blue Ring 4x20 made for the carry handle mount on my A2 Clone.
I got mine for less than $100 about 10 years ago, wish I would have bought two. Great optic, 100% Japanese made. Also have the Delta Style Cheek Piece on the Stock to accommodate the height over bore. |
If I were serious about it, I would go with a LaRue or DD free float instead.
