Ordered some gun parts from Gun Broker. Tracking number says the post office delivered the package yesterday at 11 am. I was home all morning, didnt hear a knock, and there is no package anywhere around my house.
I drove up to the local Post Office and explained the situation. The guy there says the carrier is still out on his route and he will give me a call when he gets back. I left my cell phone number, but I'm thinking "Yeah right". Surprise..two days later and no call. I don't live in the greatest area, but it's a quiet street, and I do a TON of shopping online and have never had a package stolen before. I really don't think it was stolen off my porch. I friend of mine's wife is a letter carrier. She says that sometimes they scan the day's deliveries all at once at the beginning of their routes. If he delivered the package to the wrong house it could be anywhere. Does anyone know the USPS's policy? What are my options? If I go back on Monday and they tell me the package was delivered, am I completely out of luck? Is there a step I can take beyond that? I don't want to throw $75 dollars down the toilet. |
| I would return to the Post Office and ask to speak to the Postmaster. I would make it clear that you are unhappy with the lack of response and promised follow up regarding your issue. Respectfully but firmly let them know that you want an answer as to what happened to your parcel (they should be able to figure out who delivered it and where...although it certainly would have been easier when the trail was hot). IF they remain uncooperative or you are unhappy with the lack of effort put into investigating this...you can go nuclear and ask for contact info for Postal Inspectors....they are no joke and most offices will work hard to keep them out of the mix.Good Luck! |
| ask your next door neighbors if they got it first, then go to the post office, then ask for somebody in charge. the usps has been very good to me, and i use them every day, for years to ship packages. ONCE YOU START TALKING TO SOMEBODY THATS NOT THERE TO MOP THE FLOORS YOU HAVE MORE LUCK. |
| Did you have it insured? If not, and the carrier doesn't remember, then you are pretty much SOL. The USPS tracking is the worst I've ever dealt with. It doesn't track your stuff, any where. Just kind of gives you some updates. Only one that does track it is registered, but that still doesn't get the updates correctly. |

OP: Those guys never ring the door bell or knock, they just drop your parcel off at your door step and scoot.
USPS is probably the worse of the delivery .ORGs. My friend bought a video from a gun place, and they the gun place sent it Priority Mail, and it got to my house like a month later! WTF? Well the package was bouncing back & forthe between on PO and another. The PO person must've figured out what is going on, I got it the next day. |

Thank you for the replies. I will go back Monday and speak with someone in charge...won't be blown off again by them Been buying online for many years, this is the first time this has happened. |

A very expensive knife was lost just before christmas, similar story. I started asking around. I went to the post office with pen and paper and wrote down everbody's name as i was talking to them, and received phone numbers for the people who would "call me back."
Story I was told was that on that day a different carrier did the regular carrier's route. I kept barking further and firther up the tree. I came home on a Thursday, and the roommate had checked the mail at 5pm and mail had arrived but no package. I called the post office again and let a supervisor know another day had passed. I was told my carrier would call me back, again, personally. On a hunch I checked my mailbox at 7pm when I came home. The carrier hadnt called by my mailbox now had a delivery. A very beat-up and clearly opened package. It was 2 weeks late, but the very expensive knife had arrived. I don't think the carrier knew what they were looking at. In my apartment complex, 5 other residents had the same situation from a delivery for the same day. I've kept in contact with my leasing office becasue we all checked if anything was delivered there as happens with UPS and FedEx. So far I'm the only one who received their package from the USPS. I shook a LOT of trees. Take names, and call back multiple times a day. Good luck. |
I had similar issues with a sling for my rifle a few years back... the local carrier didn't believe that I lived at my address, despite the fact that I had completed the Change Of Address form (and they screwed up my dad's mail when I did that because we have similar names).
After a couple of months of the rifle sling BS (with the sling being returned to the sender and re-shipped several times), I ended up having to go find my local mailman and I had to tell him to give me my package. He gave it to me. Calling the Post Office was utterly worthless, even when I did speak to someone in charge. "What ? What package ? We get a lot of packages". Sometimes you just got to hunt down your local mailman and talk to him instead. I've had much better luck with UPS. |

It eventually showed up but it was smack in the middle of their Christmas shipping when it failed to show at their promised delivery date. The Postmaster was less than helpful... keep pressing. |

I will not sell a weapon or sell on EBay anything that will have to ship between the second week in Dec. and the start of the new year. All carriers make mistakes that time of year due to simple volume. If you do decide to ship or buy during that time then you better get insurance. |
