I just reinstalled XP on my brothers computer and I can't get the computer to recognize the local area connection like it should. Can anybody help?

Network cable is installed, how do I check to see if the drivers are installed? Wouldn't they be installed with the OS?

Depends on how new the card is. right click computer, manage, look in device manager for any yellow (?) glyphs. If you have them, you need drivers for that hardware.

Right click on my computer icon, select properties, go to hardware tab and select device manager.  There you will see all devices.  Yellow exclamation marks and red Xs mean there is a problem with the hardware.
