Right side, inguinal, doc says lay off the heavy lifts. :-\

Fine, I will do bodyweight metcons and amraps.  Stupid hernia...I was going to start a cutting cycle in a couple weeks anyway, guess I'll get on it now.

Surgery?

Did you already have a repair?

Did you blow out the repair?

I had a Bilateral Repair 4 months ago, just started to PT again.

Had the left side done 7 or 8 years ago.  Its held up fine.  Going to tell the surgeon to box stitch this fucker though, I was almost at my 300lb squat goal and I will be back NoV asap.

That is good to hear that you were squatting heavy. I am scared to death of busting my patches. I know that would be damn near impossible but still.

Did you have a laperscopic repair done the 1st time?

I tried finding info on strength between open and lap and from the single article I could find was that Lap was almost twice as strong as the open repair. Should ask your surgeon about that.

When I had the first one done I asked about lap vs open.  That doc said for someone athletic the open would be more reliable.

Really?

My surgeon said they were both great repairs but said that open could leave chronic pain, funny because my right thigh has a strip of numbness down it

Like I said, I could only find one article about it and Lap was almost twice as strong in there model, which were pigs that were repaired both ways. they then killed the pigs and then applied and measured the force required to disrupt the inguinal canal. The control side (no repair) went first, the open repair went second but at over 4 times the required force as the control and the lap was the strongest by a fair margin.

But I'd figure you could ask 10 different surgeons and get 10 different answers...

Interdasting.

I have my consult on Wed, I will post what I find out.  I know the recovery time for lap is supposed to be much much shorter and that is of great interest to me.

Surgery complete.  Went in yesterday.  They did the laproscopic repair through three incisions in my abdomen at belly button level.

I am fucking sore.  Slightly worse than a hard ab workout when you have no abs, that kind of sore.  But all my shit is back in the right place at least.

Doc said nothing more than walking for FOUR FUCKING WEEKS, so when I'm ambulatory again I'll just be walking everywhere.  I HATE not being able to lift, just fucking hate it.  FUCK.

Time for happy pills.

Take it easy man, I know it sucks!

I did some dead lifts today and I could feel the patch on the left side...

Assuming just scar tissue pulling as it doesn't stretch anymore

So you went with the lap, what did your surgeon say about strength of the repairs?

I squatted with hernias while waiting for my surgery appointment. I was already torn wide open, what else could happen?

Further rupture and require emergency surgery.
