Why did you lock this thread? www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=240985 Steyr Aug quoted historically accurate FACTS!. If you are going to lock every thread concerning religion withouit ever giving it a chance to be disscussed then you might as well lock the whole damn General discussion. No offense ment, but it is really hard to follow the Code of Conduct when it is never clear how it is applied. Just my .02 cents, do with it what you want. SGtar15 |

I believe he 'meant' well. It is likely he was coming off the "Are there any Muslims Here?" topic and was worried about them feeling threatened. I IM'd Beekeeper to disagree with the lock and noted I do not have general animosity towards all Muslims as evidenced in the previously mentioned topic. However this does NOT prevent me from discussing the factual roots of their faith. I do not dislike Christians either but that does not prevent me from pointing out any dark spots in their history either. Honestly I don't hate the followers of any religion, I just question the validity of all of them. And if I can handle being told I'm an infidel heretic who will burn in hell for my blasphemy or my other favorite "I am the tool of the devil" than I think it is no more offensive to question the history of the faiths that brand me as such. I'd like to note for the record that I didn't start this topic and was willing to let it go. I posted it on a alternate forum, preban.com simply so it wouldn't go to waste. |
No, I started it because I am not willing to let it go. Can we at l;east get SOME moderator in here to try to explain things? And why does staff seem to lock these post so much more ofetn then the mods of the forums themsleves? DOesn't staff trust the mods to do their jobs? I know I am bitching, but this has been an on going question of mine over the last few months and it doesn't seem to be getting resolved. I can't believe that it is 100% okay for me to post pics of near naked woemn, but when SteyrAug or someone else posts certain religious topics they get locked. Why the fuck don't you just have a COC rule that says we can't talk about anything as it pretains to religioun Beekeeper? Because you sure seem to be the one that gets offended the most by these threads. SGtar15 |

Well let me take the time to do something constructive. First, I like you. I've read your posts and you are usually right on. You are what I consider a "good egg." HOWEVER, I don't believe in the validity of your religion. The above applies to about 60% of the membership here as well. So why does that aggravate you? I don't share your faith and I seek the truth by questioning things. Can you honestly tell me you would not do the same to someone who honestly promoted Greek Gods as factual entities? That is how I see your religion. It does not mean I hate you, it does not mean I think you people should be put in camps. It means I don't believe in your God and I don't wish to be subject to the tennets of your religion. However, YOU absolutely have the same freedom. You may believe anything you wish. You may believe in Shinto and worship trees for all I care. Just don't ask me to pray to a tree. And if someone promotes their religion as something real, please be prepared for me to question it and compare the "religious facts" with science and recorded history. Out of respect I do leave a LOT of threads alone. Anyone requesting prayers, etc. are not really promoting religion as much as practicing it. Anyone who is asking for specific religious clarification on a topic will be left to their own discussion. But there have been plenty of threads where religious promoters try and discredit evolution, age of the universe, etc. Why is it bad when I post in kind? Why is it bad when I address someone who attempts to promote religion as fact by supplying facts? Why does that aggravate you? |
A historically accurate discourse on origins of the 'Religion of Peace' would cause anguish to the 'Religion of Peace'…?? ![]() Andy |

SA, I shoulda said "frustrate" instead of "aggravate". I'm sure you understand that Christians have a duty to witness, and while I understand quite well that you don't have to listen, FOR ME, it is very frustrating. As I said, I can live with that. And FWIW, when I'm elected president, I'm still gonna hit you up to run the homeland security department. |
Why does it "frustrate" you? Understand that as a person who respects history I feel it is my job to promote the factual truth and actual history of recorded events regardless of any conflict with agenda or religion. And I attempt to be guided only by actual truth, which means I will immediately discount Pilthdown Man with the same recalcitrance as the Story of Noah. |

Whether I agree or disagree with SteyrAUG's post, I have found it interesting in a positive manner. Ok Styer when you wake up from falling over with fright from my agreement with your post, read on please. It has been my observation that a few select Moderators tend to force their views and opinions by banning and locking certain post that they disagree with. This post by SteyrAUG had no resemblance to any prohibited regulations of the CC. ![]() But since I am not a member of the high and mighty, who cares about my opinion.

Yeah. That's great Steyr. But why was it locked in the first place> Why is staff locking threads that the mods obviously believe they are okay. Why do some mods lock sooooo many more threads then others? SGatr15 |
I'd suggest the "OOOPS" defense. Or it could be that posters like you and I simply bring out the hair trigger on the lock button. |
Yup. The cycle seems to repeat. I give Beekeeper an assload more credit than that scumbag DonR, however. BK isn't out there provoking shit and has always been fair to me. |

i will answer the why some lock more than others question. I have been guilty of this also. days i work from home i spend a good part of the day reading here. sometimes, especially during problem posts, you get fed up with the trolls and have a tendancy to stop things before they can become an issue. I know thats not a good answer but all of us have been guilty of it. I don't think any of the gd mods have a power trip issue. I do think some have a lower BS tolerance and other need a sense of humor implant. i have noticed that since the board came up there have been MANY more locks by staff than the mods. Some days i actually wonder why we need mods, we have staff doing our job for us. mike |
It's unlocked and you're STILL bitching?? ![]() I locked it initially in an effort to slow the "religion bashing" that was the "bash du jour" of late. The commentary at the end was not "historically factual"--it is/was bashing--certainly not enough to warrant a lock as a stand-alone, but with ten other threads dealing with similar topics to post in, it made sense to lock it. Also, I had no clue who else may have been logged in. Staff are just "glorified Mods that can mod everywhere"--and I am assigned specifically to the General area of the board. Like it or not, I'm just doing my job. GoatBoy does want things loosened up from prior days, so upon reflection, and discussion with one of the GD Mods, I decided to unlock it. The "double lock" that someone referenced is a glitch in the frigging new system that is not resolved yet. As to why some of us lock more threads than others, it's because--**STAY WITH ME HERE**--some of us are able to spend more time on the board. We all work from the same Conduct Code, obviously, but we all have individual perspectives that will naturally and automatically serve to affect the actions we take. One may see an "obvious" violation while the next one thinks "no biggee." We do the best we can at this <volunteer> job. We do our best to help keep the place going. That's all there is to it--nothing sinister, nothing self-serving, no grudges, nothing personal--just an attempt to do what we're told and keep everyone happy. |
Gotcha...You lock the Muslim threads while TC6969 locks the Christian threads.. Funny how a mod can post in a thread then a staff member locks that thread latter. Like I said Mike, and your answer clearly reflect this, the members here are still unclear of what we can and can not post. What it comes down to, and stay with me here MIKE is that we can post one thing when one mod is on duty and a completely differant thing when another Mod is on duty! That is the crux (*sp?) of the problem. Now, Mike, you and I have both been here for awhile, we have a history and I do not want to harm that. I have respect for you, I like you. Part of the reason I respect you is because you stand up for what you believe in. Mike, I believe that this issue needs to be resolved. Thank You Sgtar15 |
WTF?? Either you're making no sense, or I'm stupid as a rock. tc6969 and I have not collaborated about any of this--NOT ONCE, NOT A BIT. In most cases, most of the moderating actions I take are the result of an IM received from one of my **many** "helpers" left over from my GD Mod days. I know the (incorrect) image I have is that I spend all my time just drooling over finding something to lock. The truth is that 90% of the things I do are fed to me by others. Sometimes it's comical that my "best snitches" are those you would least expect to act in that capacity. I take the job seriously, have my instructions, and act with my best judgement--and take every action seriously. I never do anything on a whim, or capriciously, or with malice or a grudge. If a thread is locked following a post by a Mod or another Staffer, you might check the posts in between (in most cases). Occasionally I have locked a thread as the result of a post by a Mod or Staffer (thinking of one shameful case in particular, and I am NOT going to elaborate further--GRRRRRRR). This--
. . . is an exaggeration. Period. We do our best to be as consistent as possible, and often communicate among ourselves, and seek each other's advice and guidance. If you would make an actual effort to stay within the CC you would not have a problem. We will never achieve perfection, but we try to be as fair and consistent as possible. It's frustrating in the extreme when we try to be consistent, then hear a bitch that we should cut slack for long-time Members, or paying Members, or guys "we like." It's exactly like the BOTD thing--no matter what we do there are gripes, serious gripes and loud gripes. Some don't want it at all, ever, anyplace. Others want it only in Team. Others want Porn-O-Rama everywhere. No matter what we do, some are not happy. It's just the nature of the beast, and we accept that. My best suggestion--lighten up, it's just the fucking internet. You act like we're killing your cat or child. |
And I get the Buddhist and California hate rants. ![]() I get caught too many times posting early in the thread before it's gone to shit. Later someone will take a crap or two and then it all goes to hell. I've even had people edit their posts above mine causing trouble. It looks like someone needs to spend more time in real life and leave the Internet alone. I always feel better after leaving |

To tell you the truth - I think the mods here do a pretty good job. If you think this board is overly-moderated, go visit some of the other adult daycare centers on the 'net that are masquerading as gun boards. I lurked on them during the latest downtime, and all I could think was how these idiots were making the rest of us gunowners look like idiots to anyone that took more than five minutes to look at them. You can recognize many of the members by the "whose who" list of Arfcom banned members. Each thread seems to degenerate into an idiot-fest by the tenth post with no chance of recovery. This place ain't perfect, but at least it's respectable. |
NEXT WEEK: The Truth Of Buddhism... There are NO Universal truths, it's a lie. We don't cause out own suffering, it all Barbara Steisands fault. The Eightfold Path is really a 12 step program. Arhats are asshats. Enlightenment is a crock. We saw the Buddha on the road and we killed him. ![]() |
