If you can barely fight off a revolt, WTF makes you think you can handle the US?

They can't.

But they can play the terrorism game very well.

First, I have no love for Ghaddafi and think he's an obnoxious PoS that needs to be stepped on.  The Lockerbee bombing, bombing of night clubs in Europe that killed U.S. servicemen, and the current genocide in Sudan where Ghaddafi funded moslems are killing Christians all prove that pushing him toward reincarnation will make this world a nicer place.

However, the last time I checked we're broke.  We're already talking about slashing military expenditures and 35% of all Marine Corps First Lieutenants have been told to take a hike. Over 44 million Americans are on food stamps and god knows how many are on extended unemployment.  That means those left standing and working are going to have to pay for yet another war.

While we can certainly defeat Libya, but our military is overstretched and we could be immersed in another country when we cannot afford it financially.

If I understand you correctly:  THIS.

I'd be all for the US participating in a no-fly zone IF I thought there was any chance that they'd (Libyans) would remember and thank us for it as opposed to hating us (anyway) in the future.

I still go back to my Egyptian comment from the Sex Pistols Anarchy in the UK:  "I don't know what I want but I know how to get it".

As an aside, it is funny to watch the "rebel fighters" scatter like mice when something (anything) comes their way...and lined up light that on the roads/highways...a fighter pilot's dream come true.

Actually this is how I feel about it. We need to bring our troops back home, and yes I know that AFG and Iraq will probably collapse when we do. So be it.

I also would have 100% of our foreign aide cut off, and not a red cent leave our shores until we are debt free.

No, our dumbass president is threatening him by seeking the UN's approval to start striking his army!

His response is basically that he'll just trash the middle east, everything of importance within reach of his country.

It will end up costing us a lot more if AFG and Iraq collapse. And the foreign aid can provide a good bang for the buck in terms of security and secure international commerce (not that we shouldn't review it, because no doubt much is wasted).

As far as Lybia, I think we should have gone unilateral on Q's ass, with a no fly zone and perhaps even take out some of Q's ground forces. I'll defer on someone with a better idea of Lybian air defences on this, but I think we could have provided a lot of support at minimal cost. The costly thing is rebuilding or establishing civil society in these places, air superiority is something we are good at.

Is it because it will cause more instability in the middle east, and thus affecting oil prices and a rise in terrorism?

By asking the UN, 0 is showing Q that we are not a threat. If 0 was serious he would have lead the way, and he would have gotten at least moral support from France and the UK.

Yes, but oil is not the only commerce that will be affected. Consider the Suiz canal. And consider where all the people of the ME will want to flee.

Part of the problem is that 0 doesn't want to act like Bush the Unilateralist. 0 is very much a Weak Horse any way you look at him, but above all he wants to be the Nice Guy. That means going through the UN, which pretty much is a foregone failure. Russians have veto power, do they not?

If we could change the outcome so Q is gone, it is an upside. That said, I don't know the makeup of the rebels, or who will likely gain control if they win, and I'll defer to those who have a better understanding of them.

OP hasn't been paying much attention.

The ability to properly meet our military on the field of battle hasn't been necessary in sending us packing in decades...

Since our culture is weak, the Lybian battle plan is going to be:

Phase 1) Show dead children on CNN
Phase 2) Show starving children (a result of sanctions) on CNN
Phase 3) Hide in bunkers and watch us defeat ourselves

Au contraire mon frere!

Just finished watching a democratic pundit explain how O has been leading the way for military intervention in Libya, just waiting for the UN to get on board we can start taking action.

Now where in 'kin 'ell he got that from I'll never understand...more libtard rationalization.
