I have a chance to pick the one pictured up. They say it's been apart for quite some time but they have the parts. They claim the gun is jammed/won't fire. I have not handle the gun and know nothing about barrel condition or if all of the parts are even there.

I'm curious as to how much to offer. I've searched gun broker and everything on there was operational and the lowest price was around $400.

Only pic I have from seller.

Looks like the barrel is held on by that pin.

I could be wrong.

My Hi standard has a button up front you press and you can rotate the barrel out. I don't see that on yours

You might check on google, because I'm going from memory; but I think there is something about those guns that if you don't disassemble in the proper order the slide will jam up and cannot be removed without destroying it or some other major component(s).  If I'm right about this, that may be the situation with this gun.

I'm not sure. I need to do some more research.

My dad bought one when he was in the navy in the late 1960s.  It is in near perfect condition but probably only worth $500.  Do your best estimate what a crappy condition pistol might be.

Thanks. I'm working so I'll have to check this out later.

I gave $300 for mine, without the holster. It's about the same condition.

Numrich Arms shows a lot of parts as Sold Out.
If it's apart and all the parts are there and in good condition, I'd gamble $100 on it. YMMV.

He got back to me and is asking $100 although he said there was some wiggle room. I still need to do a parts inventory to see where it sits when i get a chance to physically see the gun.

Thanks for all replies. I'll keep you updated as to what I do.

$100?!?!? My uncle got one in pristine condition for a couple 6-packs, lol.

(BTW, not picking on your price, I just still find it funny that those things sell for 3-400 in good condition and he got his for 12 beers. )

I have a couple of Sport Kings and have a soft spot for HS .22's.

With that said no grips, in the shape it is imho $400 is a bit too optimistic, $300 is a little more realistic given you'll be spending another $80 for a set of grips and a magazine.

ETA  I just saw your post on the $100 price I'd jump on that.

I looked into it and you are correct. If the the person has no clue of how to take it apart and pulls the take down lever out, the insides come apart and lock the gun up solid. The only solution to the problem is to mill the top of the slide to remove the objects to get the slide off. Then you have to weld a new piece of steel in and finish it off.

Way too much time and effort if that's the problem.

My worry is that they did this and the gun is taken down as far as it is to try and figure out what was wrong and how to fix it.

I have a model H-D Military. In 1985 I sent it to an old guy in CT in that retired from High Standard. He replaced some springs. He mentioned that parts were getting scarce 37 years ago.

Without seeing the thing work and no grips it's almost a parts gun. $50 would be a stretch.

Well I finally got my hands on it. It's locked up. The slide, hammer, and take down lever are all seized.

He says they have all the parts. I told him it may just be a wall hanger/conversation piece.

I'll probably pass.

Back in the late 70's I bought a 6" barrel version that was made in 1946 for about $85.  She has been my problem child ever since.  I'd pass on that one.

Probably worth it in parts alone if you took the time to sell them.

I made a recoil spring for a worn out one a few years ago.

As I recall they use standard velocity ammo only.
