For the past year I've been surfing along at 12mb for $36 a month as happy as a clam.....until I got this month's bill.  Freaking $56!    I personally think that is ridiculous!  And of course when I look for different options I have ONLY 1, AT&T's U-verse for about the same price.  Out of the 4-5 companies in the area only Comcast provides cable modem access.

How much are you paying for internet?

Mine isnt listed there.  I pay $0.00 for my Cable and HSD, and $20 for the phone.

Great things happen when you work for your cable company

I pay $35 a month for a meager 1.5 Mb DSL.

I wish I could get 12 Mb for $56!!

I pay about $32 a month for decent Qwest DSL.  It's reliable, but not incredibly fast.

If it ever gets to be too much, I'll just cancel, and run everything off of one of my 32+ neighbors unsecured wireless connections that I can see.

$95 /mo for DSL "Pro" and unlimited everything* land line w/ AT&T

(*excludes most international calls)

Communication bills suck.  Just for the house...

Three cells @ $240 / mo
Land line Internet @ $95 /mo
Satellite @ $76 / mo

$411 / mo.

Mine is about $36 a month, I only get 3Mb though.

$50 a month and don't have much of a choice for high speed in the boonies.

i have a 1mbs connection but i live in the sticks and have broadband through HF radio. 35.00 a month. i should be getting 3mbs but the signal is weak where i am.

not fast but WAYYYYYYY better than my dialup that was costing me 25.00 a month.

I selected $61 and up, but that includes $10 for my cable TV. I had a 12 mb with Comcast and then they changed it. They told me there was no such thing as the 12 mb tier anymore. Of course the next best thing is higher.

Now I get this for about $55 a month.

$55 a month for at&t "Max Internet". We've got it bundled with U-Verse. It's 12 down and 1.5 up, IIRC.

$50 for 20Mb line.
7/15/2009 8:26:37 AM EDT

$25 a month for 1.5 mb down.

upgraded from 19.95 for 75 kB down...

AT&T blows dead goats.  couldn't get Uverse to work after dicking around for 8 days. I switched back to DSL.

About $150 from Charter

phone/cable/internet all included

All the unlimited long distance, HD cable with all the pay channels and 10mb down/1mb up internet, etc yadda yadda

I use Comcast for $19.95 a month.

Every six months they want to up the bill and I tell them I am going to switch to another provider and they extend the offer another six months.

$50/month for 3 up and 1.5 down.  Supposedly my ISP (Charter) is upping their premium services to 10mb and as a result I'll automatically receive the adjusted lowest tier (5mb) for the same price.

My monthly cable+internet bill is ~$160/month.  Charter has a monopoly on the cable service...it's either them or Dish Network/Direct.

ALL of you need to stop your bitchen.  The shop I manage pays 83 dollars a month for 1.5 Mb.  The sad part is it is "UP TO" 1.5 Mb.  I only see 256 up and down ever.

Integra Tellicom can suck a dick.

$59.99 for Comcast upper tier Cable service. Usually average about 18-20Mbps down and 5-6Mbps up. I've got zero complaints here on the internet service, which is good since my only other option would be a 3Mbps down 768k up DSL line. I'd kill for FIOS to get here, cause I don't feel like paying an extra $50 a month to Comcast just to get two or three more channels....I'm on the limited basic, which is $12 a month for local only. Anything else and you jump into the "Digital" packages which don't start until the mid $60 range.

$56 for 12Mb is a good deal.

T1's (1.5Mb) are about $300 a month

T3's (44Mb) are about $1,500 a month.

i remember when my computer geek friend was paying by the hour for 33.3kb, HUNDREDS of dollars a month, and it would take HOURS for good porn to download.  then $19.95  a month for 56k.

the $36 was the introductory price,  you didn't expect to pay that forever right???

we have Comcast here in houston....they have 6Mb and 12Mb internet....they also suck.  so i'm paying about $55 a month with ATT for 5 Mb internet,  i can download all the porn i want and play on my xbox, and i don't have to deal with Comcasts douchebagery.

$70/Mo - Pro Package DSL with ATT with 5 static IPs / DNS hosting.  3MB down and 512up.  They don't hassle me with port blocking or AUP policies that forbid everything.  It has not gone down in 7 years of using it.  Road Runner would drop my connection if I looked at it wrong.

Sand in your mangina.

This price is not out of line –– especially when the competitor in the area is about the same.

and?

call up ATT and say you have an offer from comcast for same speed of internet for less and they will cut your bill asap.

i do it every 6 months to comcast ^_^ takes 5 minutes and saves me 20 bucks on a regular internet fee of 50$ so it goes to 30$

this last time i called they bumped my speed or something, my download didnt increase but my upload doubled.....

I wonder if my router is limiting my download speed now, its sorta older but i doubt it..

my upload seems quite ridiculous good now, i wonder if its a mistake ^_^

No he's quite serious and that price will vary greatly depending on location and how much bandwidth you order, but tier one service, the stuff your ISP buys to resell you is expensive.  My ISP actually paid closer to $650 a month per 1.5Mb of bandwidth.  Its why consumers who get their panties in a bunch thinking their $50 a month should grand them 24/7 no caps or limitations on access to 10Mb/s a second generally have no idea what they're talking about.

Except the major ISP aren't bringing in T1's, they are brining in OC's where they monopolize the pipes and thus the areas.  At my last job their OC12 was cheaper than their 2 T-1s per month.

No, that is 1.5 Mb up/down per month.  This is non-residential service usually, and terms allow for servers and such.

They must live to far away from the at&t box. Ours is less than 100 yards from our house as the crow flies, and it hasn't cut out once in the 7 months we've had it.

The closest box in my old mans neighborhood is almost a half mile away from his house. His neighbor had it installed and it wouldn't work for shit.

When the install guy comes out, he can tell you how far away you are. I think I remember reading somewhere that you want to be less than a 1/4 mile from the fiber "drop box", I think it was called.
