Been doing 5x5 for a while (missed a week due to trip to Ireland) and finally hit some cool numbers.

I know it isn't a big deal to some of you because you can lift a barn, but yesterday was 200 for squat, 225 for deadlift. Also, 200 is my weight.

I never did squats because I was a boxer so I had skinny skinny legs. Now that part of my life is long gone I wanted something that would build useful strength and some muscle mass. Looks like I picked the right workout. I was worried at first due to injury (I tore a hammy in rugby), but everything has been going good and have not hit a plateau.

ETA: I was wrong, DL was 225lbs.

awesome. It feels great to set goals and hit them.
once you get close to 300 you will look back and remember 200 and think it was forever ago and remember it being really difficult.
just keep at it and stay focused.

I'm actually impressed with the workout. A few months ago there was no way I could squat 200lbs. 25 times in a row. Now once I'm done with the first set my legs feel great and I'm good to go. We go slow to focus on form and fluid motions.

That happened with OHP because I missed a day. Yesterday we did 125 and it was pretty tough.

Yep, squatting 3 plates for the first time was probably the hardest lift I've ever done and I squatted 200lbs more than that last week. Just because the weight is heavier doesn't always make the lift harder, if that makes sense.

Sweet!  That's a 5x5 lift at 200lbs?  That means your probably maxed at 250+?  Good work.

Yeah, it's 5 sets of 5 at 200. I don't know max to be honest. I just follow the strong lift app.

ETA: Also, there is a similar theme to our quotes.

Good job.

And don't feel bad about the legs. I've been lifting for awhile and my legs still look tiny.

I can bench over 225, but because of 5x5 I'm at 195 right now.

Oh yeah, I never looked at that thread. Once I saw it was fitness stuff in GD I didn't bother.

So you're not aware that 80% of GD was bench pressing 225 in the fourth grade?

I mean, considering they would have retired a multi-millionaire by third grade what else are they supposed to do with their time?

I have a lot of trouble believing that over 50% of GD can press 225 lbs.

I would loved to have answered yes myself, but I am frail and weak and constantly stall at my bodyweight.

I guess the obvious answer is to get up to 225 lbs.

Awesome. I'm also doing 5x5, and will hit 225 deadlift this week. I'm only at 185 on squat, but the numbers are climbing fast and I'm enjoying it. Great beginner program. Enjoy it.
