I'm going hog hunting in the Green Swamp (Central Florida) next weekend.  I haven't been hunting in over 30 years.

I was planning to take a M1 Carbine with soft points.  Is that powerful enough?  I doubt I will be shooting more than 25 yds.

Anycomments?

I used to use one on hogs when I was a kid.

Them hogs is tough!

Do you have your 5 round mag ready?

I bought one today at the gunshow in Orlando.  I am ready.  I just don't want to piss the hog off so that he will take the Carbine away from me and cram it up my ass.  I hope it is powerful enough.

Use something with a bit more Oomph. I always used a 44 Mag from a Vaquero. Planted 'em every time.

I always wanted to go hog hunting, but I'm not sure where I can go around here in Louisiana without being on someone's land.

When growing up, I used to kill big hogs at my grandparents with a .22 short between the eyes. One shot was all it took

I spent several of my formative years running pigs with dogs. After fixing and burying several dogs, and meeting a man injured by a pig, I'm scared of them. I prefer something a bit bigger. That said, I'd hunt them with an M1 Carbine, as long as I could have my 629 44 Magnum with me.

Happy hunting!

(like he said, enjoy your 5 round mags. )

um, I'll take the m1 with a 110gr rd and then I would say the m1 was more powerful. 357 vel out of a loong BBl vs a short Bbl pistol, no contest. I have hunted with both(not a vaquero tho) and I mainly hunt Tx deer with my 20"colt

1)How big do them hogs get down there and how big a herd can they run in?

2)Are you going into brushy, open territory?

3)how accurate is your carbine at say 50+ yds?

4)What other critters of interest might you run across in there besides hogs

5}Do you have hi-cap mags?

6]Do you have access to a boat for escape?

7)Do you know how to evade a hog that is charging at close quarters?

8)Do you have or know were to get the heaviest and hottest ammo for m-1 carbine?

9)Do you have or can you borrow a .357mag or bigger[HOT ROUNDS] handgun for back-up protection?

10)Do you have a large hunting knife that will hold a sharp edge?

11) You will need snake bite protection from the knees down and kit and a machete could come in handy.

12]Three hunters is a good number, discuss various senarios routine and emergency before hunt.

Good hunting and keep the brotherhood posted!

Easy soultion that I use exclusively now.  Aim for the head.  Between the eyes and ears puts 'em down DRT.

Almost any caliber will work if you put one in their ear hole.  After shooting them in the vitals and tracking hogs through brush when they were "running dead", I only do head shots now.  Those hogs will run and run with no heart.  And If shot through the armor they often leave little to no blood trail.  I pretty much use my Bushmaster Varminter on hogs nowadays. 64gr Powerpoints.   But, I only hunt from a blind so that I am sure of a clean shot.  Your .30 WILL work!

ask around.  here people tell us they want us to hog hunt on their land just to get rid of them.  farmers love to get rid of wild hogs because they are so destructive.
