The fan on my AC (Heat Pump actually) won't shut off. The compressor turns on and off as it should, but the fan hasn't shut off all week. I disconnected the thermostat and it had no effect, so I assume there is a problem part on the unit. Any help would be appreciated. |
Since you disconnected the thermostat I will assume you also switched the switch on the thermostat that says "fan" to the "off" position. ![]() Have you tried reseting it by cutting the power via the circuit breaker? I don't really know anything about it. Just throwing out stuff I would try. |
That would be my guess. Are they readily available, or is it something one would have to order? Do I have to pay somebody or is this something that can be performed by a reasonably abled individual? |

Turn off the power to the outside unit. Open up electrical box on side of outside unit. Check with meter to make sure power is off to outside unit. Locate the fan relay. You can do this by tracing the wires back from the fan. Remove relay. Label wires. Go to A/C supply. Put relay on counter, and tell them you need one of these. Reinstall relay. Turn on power with 10' pole ( just kidding about the pole) Tools: Meter 5/16 nut driver or socket Phillips screwdriver needle nose pliers tape (labeling wires) 12 pack (for me ETA: I thought you were talking about the fan relay on the outside unit. Disgegard these instructions. |
It moves the air inside the house and is located on the roof. (Un) Fortunatly I have a Day job and can't get to the AC repair place until Saturday. My plan is on Saturday to turn of the AC and have it fixed before about 10:00 AM before it gets too hot as we will be pushing 100. This is my initial recon. |
