Sitting around with my dad. Making sure he is eating well and controlling his sugar etc.

Gives me some extra time for insurance shopping.

Allstate jacked me to 2700 per year. USAA gave me a quote for 2200 and much more coverage.

My allstate policy renews  on 7 september. I think escrow has already sent them the payment.

How do I switch to USAA?  I don't know much about this stuff and figure arfcom insurance gurus might help.

For example::Should my start date be for new insurance policy? When do I cancel allstate? and how? Phone good enough or by mail?

if allstate has been paid by escrow, then do they refund to me or escrow? How do I get USAA paid?

I didn't have escrow with my last home.
Any help appreciated.

I would suggest checking with the mortgage company - they'll tell you how to do it.

Also check with whatever company you have for your auto and life.  Most companies offer discounts for multiple lines.  I actually use Allstate for home, life and auto, and get some pretty hefty discounts.  My homeowners' policy is like $1200 on a $400k home.

Damn!!! THat's pretty good.

Just got off the phone with USAA.

Price is even lower (1800 per year). I don't have auto with them.

She says it is as easy as 2 phone calls. I don't believe that.

I believe that 2 phone calls will result in a fucked up situation that will result in my writing check until allstate sends a refund months from now.

I could be wrong.

I made 2 phone calls.

Seems TOO easy.

The USAA lady made it totally painless and handled some faxing and calling herself.

USAA FTW
