So I'm looking to re-do my home alarm system.  I currently have a DSC PC1616 control board with 6 hardwired zones (multiple sensors connected serially per zone), 1 puny crappy 5w siren, and integrated smoke detectors (one in every room).  The current system used resistors with the sensors, but they are wired backwards (resistors at the box, not the sensor).

I'm looking to re-do my security system.  I am not really beholden to any particular ecosystem, but I do like the hardwired sensors I currently have (all hidden mount).  I'm looking for the following requirements:

Reuse my current sensors
Expand via wireless connection to more zones (upstairs and exterior)
Internet connectable (I want it to notify myself or my spouse first via email/text/call before it alerts cops/fire department)  (Also want to monitor it from my phone)
Integratabtle into home automation system in the future (as yet not installed/selected so open here as well)
ETA:  Function independently for now until I do the home automation portion

Right now I am leaning towards the DSC PC1864, with a couple expansion modules, an internet RJ45 connection, and integrating this into a HomeSeer at a future date.   I like how the DSC Power Series can be monitored by the HomeSeer for IFTTT based automation.  I.E. have the security system motion detector(s) used to turn on/off room lights; or turn on/off camera(s).

What other system(s) should I be considering?  It seems every system I look at is pretty limited, DSC and HomeSeer seem fairly robust, but I am just a man with a computer reading shit on the internet...not an industry professional.

I would go checkout the alarm/security forum under Armory.

HAI was always the best solution back when I was doing automation. In fact we have used the Alarm boards for automation alone.

I have been out of the business for a few years though.

If you are going to put the end of line resisters at the box you may as well just turn off supervision on the zone.

Thank you, didn't know that existed.

For what it's worth if you want to stick with the 1616 you can just get a wireless module that plugs into the four wire line.  You can also get an IP module for the existing system.

I didn't install this system, and in fact, before I bought this house I knew nothing about security systems.  It has taken me months of research to be able to understand what was done here.  After I figured it out I understood how cheap the current system was and how retarded those resisters were at the box .  Which is why I'm redoing my system and not just adding additional features to this handicapped garbage.

I've got a 1632 that I'm pretty happy with, and if you can get to the sensors then you should be able to just move the resistors to the end of the line where they belong.

Not enough zones.  I have 14 first level windows, 4 entry/exit doors, 3800sq/ft of space and a total of 24 rooms to control with automation.

Looks like the Vista 20p is nice, but doesn't add much over a DSC 1632.  Plus it looks like I'd have to replace my sensors with newer (and more expensive) sensors.

The IPDatatel WBAT is realy cool though, I will be looking into that more.  But the gateway is a bit limited (zwave only) and small (doesn't control enough devices)...though the UI is already created and vetted out and would save time.  I'll be looking at the gateway more too though.

Envisalink for your text and email notifications. Works good with the dsc panels.

I was leaning towards the Envisalink before I was just informed about the IPDatatel above, that IPDatatel is really snazzy, RJ45 ethernet connection (like the Envisalink), and also Wifi and Verizon CDMA connections too.  I've got lots of reading to do.
