Who has made "Gong" or "spinning steel" targets? What type of steel plate and thickness? Any tips or tricks to share? Other ideas I did not mention would be more than welcome as well.
Thanks, |
| I have made some Gongs out of 3/8" cold roll plate. they held up to about 100 rounds of 556 at 100 yards before they started blowing through. I have also used 1/2" but that starts to get thin after a few rounds also. The best stuff is AR(abrasion resistant) 450-500. It is much more pricey but it will last forever. I believe that is what a lot of the retail targets are made of. How they are mounted makes a difference too, the more movement it has, the less energy the steel has to absorb. |
