| Hey everyone. I have a concern. I have owned my bushy m4 for over a year now and I absolutely love it. It hardly jams. I keep it immaculate. Top notch accuracy. etc. But!!!, when I fire even 30 rds the barrell heats up to VERY quickly and get concerned to fire any more rounds through it until it cools off. Is there anything that I can do to prevent it. Do i need to even worry?? What about warping the barrel? Is there any other barrel that is better? fluted? Thanks and God Bless America! |

The only way that you are going to deform the barrel is if you fire 3-4000 rounds rapid fire at one sitting. It's VERY normal for your barell to heat up under sustained fire. don't worry about it. The only problem a hot barrel presents if to your hand. DON'T TOUCH THE THING. Back in the army during night fire, the SAW that my buddy used used to get red hot. Even then the thing would still be fine. also, if your Bushy "hardly jams", I'd find out the reason why and fix it. (probably bad magazine). Hope this helps, -UHLEK- |
| Thanks guys. I believe that it still james becuase I use sub grade ammo (PMC 55gr BTHP, bronze edition) I have military mags, green followers and are all permasilked. I want to buy some ammo from ammoman.com but haven't had the chance yet. Would you guys suggest the Lake City Ammo or the 62gr (I believe it's) swedish ammo he has? Or do you guys use other ammo? Once again, thanks for the advice. |

Dont worry, those new, bigger M4 handguards are designed to facilitate the heating of food items. They will accomodate a hot dog or two. Just insert two hotdogs under the handguard and by the time your done shooting, the dogs are ready! I wonder when they'll perfect the bun toaster function? [smoke] The heat is normal, but the vents burning your fingers is odd. Do you mean it makes it uncomfortable, or does it actually burn? |

The Lake City ammo is good from the feedback on the boards, and I've put about 500 rounds of the 62Gr. swiss through my rifles. The Swiss is very nice, but sticks to a magnet (AP), so I can only fire it in outdoor ranges. Ammoman is a great place to get your ammo from. (edited to add): Welcome to the board! [beer] |
