| I'm training for a new job and it has me staying in a shitty Wingate hotel. I was trying to download a squidbillies episode to make my life suck less and it gave me some bullshit about "this computer doing questionable activity and will slow it to 56k for ten minutes" Anyone ever have this problem at a hotel? Does this mean i can't watch porn on free wifi? |

Yup. I was watching porn a couple of nights. Tried the third night and I had no connectivity. I checked all my settings, even did a packet capture to see where I was getting zapped. I ended up calling the help number (god help us all).
I was told I was using excessive band width and my MAC addy had been restricted. They reset it for me and told me to use less data. Sucked. Think it was a Marriott property - but it was the only Marriott I ever had issues with. J |

I live in hotels, and I HATE hotel internet. Right now I'm on shitty wireless with a download of about 40K max. It is utterly ridiculous. As a hat tip, if you ever run into a Hotel Sierra, their internet was stellar. You could even play a first-person-shooter decently. - BG |

I have a personal comp (this one) hooked up to hotel internet and a work laptop with a cell phone connection. The cell connection blows this one away.  In order to spread the love among all guests, they arbitrarily restrict the bandwidth. The key problem, of course, is that they cheaped out on the total bandwidth to begin with. To make matters worse, I have been to hotels with wired connections (CAT 5 lan lines), and they are proudly announcing that they are switching to 100% wireless. What in the blue fuck?
