Scenario: Three young women are renting a hotel room. The girl paying for it is 18. The other two women are 19 and 20.
Is it SOP for a hotel to say "you can't check in, you're under 21?" Based on a true story. |

Why is that the case? What about 18-20 year olds out on business or at a conference? Or traveling for pleasure? Same with rental cars. I don't get the whole "you're 18 so you're an adult now, but not really, you can't get a room or a car like a real adult."
ETA: Especially those who won't rent to people under 25. That's absurd. |

I had a few problems when I was in the .mil renting hotel rooms when I was not yet 21. What helped my cause was an out of state DL, mil ID and my travel orders.
Many hotels will not rent to underage (<21) guests for fear of the property being a party location hosting underage drinkers. Out of state DLs usually allays those concerns. |

I don't know about that, but a group of 4 of us (3 females and 1 male) tried to get rooms at a Navy BOQ once...one room for the ladies and one room for me.
The front desk person said "it was against Navy regulation for two (or more) persons of the same sex to stay in one room". Worked out well for ME, though...
