(1) Many people "knocked out" aren't knocked out. They are just stunned by pain and the emotional shock of the incident, not physically unconscious.
(2) In actual "knock out" level violence, reaction time is critical. When you see a punch coming you tense up, which raises blood/fluid pressure to the brain and keeps it more "stable" during kinetic impact. In a sucker punch or completely random accident with no warning, there is no time for the pressure to increase and the brain is more mobile and takes the impact. This is why it is rarer in football or hockey to be knocked out. In boxing, even unlike MMA or other martial arts, the intended impact directly targets the brain (unlike a tackle or check or hold) and the results speak for themselves. |

Keep your head out of your phone in public and leave the earbuds at home.
Fast footfalls from behind and youths closing from the front are readily identifiable if you're paying attention. Beyond that, if you choose to live in a progressive shithole you assume a great deal of the risk. |

Watch the security videos that get posted when this shit happens.
Shouldn't be too hard for a situationally aware person to avoid most of them. Probably wouldn't even be at (or stay at) the venue). And they seem to target the oblivious. Stay froggy. Now, I've seen news footage lately of Somalis in Minnesota actually targeting young, fit males. It's like they want the fight. And if they get the knockout they kick, stomp, jump on people on the ground. Bystanders do too. That kind of predator needs to be dealt with swiftly and ruthlessly. Can't be allowed to wander about in civilized society. |

At night in a sketchy area while walking:
I dont walk on the sidewalk. I walk on the street- like in the middle of the street, especially if there is no traffic. That way I can see someone approaching me and they have to make an obvious effort to approach me. Be alert. Keep your hands free Wear good shoes which you can run in. |
