So I'm running errands today and I swing into the local mall for a drill bit at SEARS. As soon as I walk in I notice the Christmas decorations.

This is kinda a peeve of mine. As a kid I really enjoyed Christmas being "sprung" on me the day after Thanksgiving. In November all I thought about was Pilgrims, Turkey and Injuns. Seems these days people get ready for Christmas in July.

So I decide to not patronize SEARS this time. On my way out of the tool area somebody asks "Can I help you find something?" I replied "Thanks but I decided not to spend my money in stores with Christmas decorations up prior to Thanksgiving." The guy looked seriously confused, but it was FUN.

Onto the NEXT store. Hit the DVD/CD place and began looking for the store manager. After a few minutes of "browsing" he asked me if he could help me find something. I replied that I had intended to pick up a few DVDs but was offended by how EARLY they got the Christmas stuff up and I walked out. Another guy with a confused look on his face.

I decided to give the toy stores a pass. Besides I didn't wanna have to browse for GI Joes until the manager offered assistance.

BY FAR the most enjoyable was the jewelry shop. I was almost talked into that Rolex Submariner and was handing over the credit card UNTIL I noticed Christmas decorations. Oh wait, I'm sorry I just can't shop here. I explained it was one of my strongly held beliefs. The guy was stunned. I told him the decorations being up this early was just not right and I couldn't support such a thing.

Finally stopped into Lowes and got my drill bit. I only saw one small Christmas display but I decided to let it slide. Is it wrong to have this much fun at the expense of others? [:D]

Do it every day for the next 3 days.
Do it in every store you drive by.

Do it everyday for the rest of your life (adapting to whatever bothers you on that day)

I have to tell you that the day after Thanksgiving is too early, also.

There are houses nearby that are boosting the duty cycle at the powerplant by 300%.

While I strongly agree with your peeve and support you in principle, you're shoveling back the ocean with a spoon. But if your serious in your quest, you will also go to the car dealerships and start to buy a car, only to stop saying, "I'm sorry, I won't buy from a manufacturer that releases the next year's model halfway through the current year."

If you were serious you'd have done it while being lead around by your "seeing eye cat".

Tell them you're leaving because they don't have the Valentine's Day stuff up yet.

I won't spend any money in a store that puts up "Kwanzaa" decorations.

I won't go to Borders Books anymore - they have one big table of kids books with Christmas, Hanaka (I ain't even gonna try spelling that) AND... Kwanzaa books. [puke]

Early Christmas decorations bug the hell out of me too.  Problem is, if I were to stop shopping at stores that had them up early I would really have to stock up in October.  The day after Halloween, every damn store has them and people start putting up Christmas lights on their houses.

I didn't say I wasn't gonna shop in them. I just said I wasn't gonna shop in them until AFTER Thanksgiving.

So you went out of your way(so to speak) just to make somebodys day better!    They may or may not get paid on commission, but I know how you feel when somebody walks into your place of buisness asks you to look at one of your rifles, then  blah   blah   blah!

Shame on you !   Bob [:D]

Make sure while in the mall to go into the Waldenbooks, grab a couple hundred dollars of books and bring them to the counter.  Wait until they ring them up and then ask them if they carry Guns&Ammo magazine.  When the say they don't carry those kinds of magazines, tell them you don't want to shop in those kind of book stores and walk out. [:)]

BTW, the early christmas thing bugs the crap out of me too.  Won't capitalize the word 'till after Thanksgiving. [;)]

Just wait till the government forces department stores to put up Ramadan displays.[:(]

As far as trying to annoy clerks...Many of them just don't understand things due to ignorance. I quit trying to piss people off after my last trip to Canada.

I hate places like that too.

Of course, I do all my shopping for xmas online now anyways.

There's one or two places that don't celebrate Xmas in July yet.

There is a guy across the street from me with his damn tree up already. I've been tempted to just place a huge glowing Star of David on my lawn and light it up with a few million watts.

We've got some morons in the neighborhood that had their damned Christmas lights turned on since Nov1...WTF?!?

I've noticed that not one of the ads on TV has used the word "Christmas".  Not a one.  "Holiday" or "holiday season" or some variation on that theme.  Not even the ones advertising Christmas music uses the word "Christmas".

Let's face it, it has nothing to do with the holiday that I remember as a kid, it's just another reason for corporations to sell crap to consumers.  [:(]

That's what I mean.  I would have to stock up in October because I wouldn't be able to buy anything for a month!

My buddies and I have been doing the same thing for years at any place that has no concealed handgun signs up.

I have convinced a few places to take the signs down, but the best was a buddy of mine. He was shopping for a new car, and was hours into the deal and about to sign when he said "well, I tell you what, it is a good deal, but I can't in good conscience buy from a place that doesn't allow me the right to defend myself on its property" and left.

They called him back the next day, the owner apologized and the signs were down for good! And he did buy the car.

You want to talk about offensive?  How about how networks say "Happy Holidays" on CHRISTMAS DAY?  They say Happy Chanakkah and Kwanzfuckinaa on their respective days, but they can't say MERRY CHRISTMAS ANYMORE??????

You guys are lucky. Thanksgiving up here is on Oct 14. We've been looking at Christmas decorations and listening to "Happy Holiday" commercials for over a month already. The Christmas tree lots have been open for over a week
