I don't get it. Why does the phrase "How come" mean the same thing as saying "Why"

Think about it How Come = Why

This just hit me a few weeks ago when I heard someone say it and started analyzing the phrase. I've said it myself before and never realized how dumb it is.

maybe its short for "How does that come to be" ? shit i dont know. never really thought about it

It's an abbreviation of the phrase "how does it come about that..." or "How comes it about."

It's similar to "aint" and "isnt".

"How come" is not proper English, "Why" is.
