Ok hive, help me out.  This is the safety on my Mossberg 500.  I'm trying to replace the safety switch but it's got one of these goofy tamper resistant screws in it.  How do I remove it?

Harbor Freight sells driver kits for all types of tamper proof screws.

It's a Mossburg. Usually after a few good range sessions, the safety breaks and falls off. Just give it time.

Did you pull the trigger group and look at it from inside the action? I can't remember if you can get it off that way or not.

haha, I've never had in issue with either of my Mossbergs.  But no I didn't think of pulling the trigger group to see.

Of all the places I've looked I never checked Harbor Freight, I may stop tomorrow I'll be over that way any ways.

Thanks!

Does that really happen? I've had around 7,500 rounds through mine and haven't had that issue yet...

Since your replacing the safety anyway. If it will break off easily do so. Make the slot deeper and you can catch it with a screwdriver. . Use a file, or a dremel.  If you do a good job you can cold blue it and reuse the screw.

I used a regular flat head and mine came right out without any fuss

Why in the blue fuck would they put tamper proof screws on it in the first place?

Fastenal has the best driver bits I have seen period.  Non better.  Expensive as you will be buying one bit at a time instead of as a set.

just use a normal flathead the width of the screw

Thank you.

I've posted many times about the safety falling off on 500/590s and people always tell me I'm FOS.

Both breach guns in less than a week of each other. Kinda did it for me.

When you get the correct tool to get the screw off, be careful when you loosen it.  Parts will fall out from inside the receiver if you're not careful.  Makes it a bit tough to get things back together if you don't see how they come apart.  A dab of Loctite on the way together is a simple solution to a common problem.
