The easiest way to do that is log into your router and select WPA-PSK.  Then type in a passphrase into the router as the PSK (Pre-shared key).  Then, disable SSID in the router and proceed to setup the computers on the network using the same SSID and WPA-PSK encryption.

Encrypt the signal - WPA if possible, WEP if thats the only option.

Lockdown the router to only respond to the laptop's mac address.

Turn off SSID broadcast

Thats a start.

I set my ESSID to "This is not your network." and left it broadcasting.  as said above, WPA if possible.

Don't plug it in to the outlet!

Or, if you must, setup a VPN between the laptop and a VPN server.  Use a secure ID token for authentication.

I went to Komando's website, and tried to follow the instructions, but I don't think they are for a Window's 2000 software.    I didn't get to the wireless settings.   Any help?   My laptop says "IP address not renewed", or something very similar, when I try to connect.   If I turn off my security on my router, the laptop  connects automaticly.

Help.

go to ajard, type in gedrws, then disable narwgs, then proceed to kwasgt.
