Hello folks what do you take with you on vacation??? I am going 3 hrs away to the beach (NOT PRNJ) The wife thinks I nutz for taking anything at all. What do you think about the AR (4) 30 rnd'rs and a reload on stripper clips I am not Expecting to run across roving bands of zombies, robots, hells angles, or mormons. |
Ditto. Don't think I would vacation with the AR unless it was a lesser populated area. The attention an AR draws is more than you would want if you have to get into a defensive shooting situation. More than likely it's goint to be you and an attacker within 12 feet (according to FBI stats). .45 and couple spares should suffice for most situations. Now, if it's a cabin in the woods outside of a small town...well, I would go the AR route, but still would have a pistol with me. Also, consider something in the .12ga relm. Very functional, and it has the universal "don't fuck with me or my family" sound when you rack the slide. That alone is enough to curb many would be attackers. |

In the trunk, an M1911A1 (1943 Remington Rand) with 5 mags and an M1 Carbine (Winchester) with 2 15 round Mags in a stock pouch, one 15 round mag in the rifle and 3 30 round mags in the bag with the M1911A1. I really do pack that heavy on most road trips. Sometimes though, I leave the carbine at home and pack 9 Mags for the 1911A1 (that's all the Mags I have for it) A Kel-Tec P32 on me, always. |
Pack it!...You'll never know. While on vacaction...." The worst possible scenario may occur." Read the thread. |

I had picked the AR cause I can break it down and it will fine into the bag I keep my clothing in. My other option is what I took last year a Mossy 500 with a metal side folding stock, 20 buck 20 slug. This did not hide as well as the AR does. I would love to take a 45 but I do not own one yet. I also had thought about going the .357 way with my revolver and then buying a leaver gun in .357 to go with it but there would be no way to hide it. |
