http://www.nationalreview.com/article/365103/how-nazis-used-gun-control-stephen-p-halbrook

The perennial gun-control debate in America did not begin here. The same arguments for and against were made in the 1920s in the chaos of Germany’s Weimar Republic, which opted for gun registration. Law-abiding persons complied with the law, but the Communists and Nazis committing acts of political violence did not.

Sure...Nazis did it, but I'm told our people are trustworthy and look out for our best interests.

You know what else?   The Jews had to wear flair.  Just like Jennifer Aniston.

Registration leads to confiscation.

Ask a NYer, or a Kali resident

Or a 1936 German Jew

That link is a half truth.  The gun laws in the Weimar were much more strict due to the Versailles Treaty. The rules came as a result of individual German legislation and the Versailles itself. This legislation required surrendering all firearms and ammunition.

In 1938, new gun laws came down that regulated the possession of handguns, as well as the manufacturing and dealing of firearms/ammunition. While subsequently loosening restrictions on long gun ownership.  Also at this period they increased the permit validity period from 1 to 3 years, and lowered the gun possession age from 20 to 18. Although, at the same time banning Jewish ownership.

So anyway it is a falsehood to say they took all of the guns, like many do. The gun laws were actually very liberal compared to previous periods, and at the same time kept the same  for certain groups.

"The Nazis did the same thing!!!" argument is something a few pro-2nd types really want to use as a trump card, but the comparisons don't really hold much water.

not to minimize what the Jews endured in Germany, but more recently here in Canada where registration of all firearms was mandatory, a number of scary looking guns were confiscated.  things like the Famas, Aug, AK47, you know, all the scary movie guns.  those that weren't confiscated were classified as prohibited, like the FN FAL, and many others, and all handguns with barrels 4" or less.  these guns were "grandfathered" like my FN FAL.  I can keep it, but I can't shoot it, and when I die, that rifle goes to the smelter.  just over a year ago the conservative government (kind of like your republicans) abolished the long gun registry.  (this was a registry for all hunting rifles and shotguns) and guess what.... no one could find any street that was running with blood, although all the brain dead socialists were hysterical the hospitals were going to be overrun with gunshot victims.  nothing happened.  not a damn thing.
